It was first hidden on purpose. A beauty of Chinese opressive bureaucracy how it was first hidden and they sent cops harrass/arest the doctors who tried to ring the alarm. The following weeks were textbook blunder as well
Living in partially quarantined Madrid now and it sucks, with clear warnings it will get worse ,in terms of health and privation of personal freedom.
Maybe if China had better control over animal markets, food cleanliness and hygiene in eating wild animals we would not have had:

Maybe some tighter regulation on not eating disease ridden animals would keep these incidences down. If New Yorkers started cooking and eating diseased rats, I think NYC Board of Health would have stepped in.
This isn't random flu that came from a mutated strain and popped up....these two were mostly preventable.

What about the the Swine Virus started in 2008? It has killed at least one million people. They all started from the West. Not to mention there were Spanish Flu and Black Death and many others were started from the West. Hundred of million people got killed.
