The one child policy issue is not really a driver today anymore. 51% male vs 49% female, in the US it's 51% female 49% male. Statistically not relevant. The issue outside the West that your life is determined what you are born into is much more relevant imo...

If we're talking China during one child policy and perhaps even currently, if you are a female, then you have lower odds of even making it out of the womb alive or perhaps out of the bathtub alive. Unfortunately, that's also cultural.
