You speak out, they send in a gang of troops to beat the hell out of you. They have invaded and conquered a foreign nation and displaced it's leadership which still remains in exile.

State owns a major stake in all business and investments made.
Outside investors can't invest in there markets, and the list goes on and on about all the different ways that china is not quite the place you dream it to be, However, I will not.

Do you pay attention to the news, china is refusing to allow outside help to assist with rescue efforts in this recent earthquake, so you can't tell me that you can go whereever you want whenever you want to in china, it just isn't true.
As for there registration system, it's been in use for 2000 years, next time you go, stay away from the massage parlors and go visit a small town and learn a bit about the country, it's history, and how they do things in china.

BTW, NPR has Robert Seigel and Melissa Bloch right at the epicenter reporting on the earthquake. They have traveled throughout the region, never encountering any prohibition.
I have traveled extensively in China - not by plane, but by train. You clearly don't know what you are talking about.
