North Korea ‘Not Our Responsibility,’ China Says

By Sofia Lotto Persio On 7/11/17 at 9:04 AM

China has had enough of being asked to answer for North Korea’s actions. In a remarkably forceful statement, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman called for an end to what he called the “China responsibility theory.”

In his daily press conference on Tuesday, quoted by Reuters, spokesman Geng Shuang did not explicitly refer to anyone in particular, but it is difficult to think he was not speaking of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been the most vocal in calling for China to intervene in North Korea.

"Recently, certain people, talking about the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, have been exaggerating and giving prominence to the so-called China responsibility theory," Geng said. "I think this either shows lack of a full, correct knowledge of the issue, or there are ulterior motives for it, trying to shift responsibility."

The issue of North Korea’s nuclear program is a regular feature of the daily press briefings, with Geng usually restating China’s position of abidance to the U.N. sanctions against Pyongyang while maintaining “normal economic exchanges and trade” with the country.

After last week’s missile test from North Korea renewed calls for China to take action against Pyongyang’s increased threat. Trump sent a tweet asking China to make a “heavy move,” as the U.S. talked up the possibility of military action should diplomacy fail.

Trump has kept an ambivalent attitude toward China, on one hand thanking President Xi Jinping for the country’s diplomatic efforts in mediating with North Korea, while on the other criticizing China for continuing to trade with its neighbor.

“Trade between China and North Korea grew almost 40% in the first quarter. So much for China working with us - but we had to give it a try!” Trump wrote on July 5. Trump previously observed, on June 20: “While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out. At least I know China tried!”

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, all parties have to play a constructive role to defuse tensions, including the U.S., South Korea and Japan. "Asking others to do work but doing nothing themselves is not OK," Geng said. "Being stabbed in the back is really not OK."

fricken obama bush and clintons letting this get to the point where North Korea has nukes and now they have the ability to deliver them.

how the hell did obama let this get this far.
he told us the world loved him and he was save us from things like this and the rising tides would begin to recede... and tony told us it was true.... or at least acts that way.

Trump praises China for helping on North Korea

Washington (AFP) – US President Donald Trump praised China for its help in pressuring North Korea, while defending his softening stance on trade and other issues with the Asian giant, in an interview that aired Tuesday.

In the comments to Fox News, Trump cited the strength of his newfound relationship with President Xi Jinping in explaining why he has dropped his past criticism of China.

“Now, what am I going to do? Start a trade war with China while in the middle of him working on a bigger problem, frankly, with North Korea?” he said. “So, I’m dealing with China with great respect. I have great respect for him. Now, we’ll see what he can do.”

“What am I going to do? In the middle of him talking with North Korea I’m going to hit them with currency manipulation? This is the fake media that just does a number,” he said, speaking Monday on the sidelines of the annual White House Easter egg roll.

“Think of it. He’s working so nicely. Many coal ships have been sent back, fuel has been sent back. They’re not dealing the same way. Nobody’s ever seen it like that. Nobody’s ever seen such a positive response on our behalf from China.”

The turning point in Trump’s relationship with China appears to have come when he met with Xi at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on April 6-7.

During the US presidential campaign, Trump harshly attacked Beijing as a currency manipulator and threatened to slap 45 percent tariffs on Chinese imports.

Since taking office, however, US tensions with North Korea have soared amid a drumbeat of missile tests and fears Pyongyang may be readying a sixth nuclear test.

When asked if he had ruled out some sort of military strike against North Korea, Trump said he did not wish to reveal his plans.

“I don’t want to telegraph what I’m doing or what I’m thinking,” he said.

“I hope there’s going to be peace, but they’ve been talking with this gentleman (Kim Jong-un) for a long time. You read (Bill) Clinton’s book and he said ‘Oh, we made such a great peace deal’ and it was a joke. You look at different things over the years with President Obama. Everybody has been outplayed. They’ve all been outplayed by this gentleman and we’ll see what happens.”

US experts believe that only China has sufficient economic and political leverage to restrain Pyongyang’s drive to develop a long-range missile capable of hitting the US mainland with a nuclear warhead.

Since Trump was elected to office and asked China for their help with controlling North Korea's aggression -- all China did was increase trade with North Korea in order to deliberately undermine western policy to stop North Korea.

If China is now stating North Korea "is not our responsibility" -- well that gives the U.S. a free hand to start dumping cruise missiles and other ordinance on "Best Korea".

I hope China enjoys a flow blown one-sided war right on their border -- possibly involving nuclear weapons if North Korea deploys flips them first.

That's kinda how I read it. Kim Jung Un's/N Korea has had a buffer between them and the US, their Big Cousin China.

China just said, not my problem or fight. Let's see the walk back from Beijing when shots are fired.

Last thing China wants is a gazillion displaced N Koreans seeing refuge.

Tis might be a wake up call for little Kimmy.

The world just sees this American predisposition to violence and shakes their head. Korean citizens deserve to be bombed no more then the citizens of North Carolina.

Tony this kind of article is exactly why lefties are losing credibility, China didnt give an eff you to Trump they merely maintained the policy they have long stood by, infact they shifted more towards the wests side under Trump.

But Trump did indeed give China the big Eff you when he left the Paris climate deal, so whose really winning here?
