If the local government was really concerned about safety, they'd have some sort of warning the light was going to turn yellow. Some of the newer lights here show a "countdown to yellow" for pedestrians. 10-24 seconds. I find it very helpful to know the green is about to turn yellow and how soon.... especially because many of those lights are at intersections where the speed limit is 45 or even 55. (I live in a semi-rural area.) It's bad for your brakes and for safety to have to stomp your brakes from 55.

Tell me about it. I've been shook down for a hundo so far. My wife twice that. Just about everyone I know who drives in the city and burbs with this tax scam have been hit. A tax scam is all it is. Basically what they're saying is, if you drive through this intersection we're going to tax you. I'd have more respect for the thieving bastards if they just sent me a bill every year.
