Car stereo installation:

I want to buy a very high end stereo system for my car, including XM & MP3 player. I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, and plan on spending a few grand on this.

Tweeter is absolutely out of the question, as I dislike dealing with incompetent morons.

Thanx for any help.

never ever ever use tweeter or the big box stores for car stereo installation. tweeter installed a disc changer in my SL500 back in 1997--- they could not get it to work and shorted out the radio.

took it to a local high end installation place, they had it fixed and working within 15 minutes--- as the last installer told me--"we are brain surgeons compared to tweeter installers". paying the little extra is well worth it.

good luck,

Now I know where to start,

Appreciate it, nitro!

From what I understand, ProMusica in Chicago is a great place for very hi end home stereos.

I have several friends that have used ABT

http://www.abtelectronics.com/

in north burbs and they said they were more than adequate. If ABT is not a possibility, call Pro Musica and they surely have a contact.

Audio Consultants on Randolph is worth a shot. High volume audiophile shop with better parking than ProMusica on Clark. :D
I like Audio Consultants very much. There is one in Evanston too, and the parking is even easier than the one downtown.

Yeah, I've been in the Evanston location. Good shop and knowledgeable staff.

The two suburban Audio Consultants stores don't do car stereos at all (I just called them), and I avoid the city (and any other crowded place) as much as possible.

Going to pursue ABT for now, let me know if any other good ideas come to mind...
