You just put in a pot the "usual suspects": onion celery
They don't make pizza or beer out of celery. That is all you need to know about celery.

I really don't want to relay the story but I choked on some nuts (almonds, thanks) this morning and almost didn't make it to be Heimliched by Finn. So disaster averted but he literally saved my life. It was surreal for many reasons but I can tell you what it felt like to loss consciousness while choking. Literally myopic-vision and loss of hearing. Very strange.
Ironic as I had saved a choking victim at a restaurant in the S of France when I was at the conagency (with my parents who were staying in Aix).
So be mindful of what you're eating and masticate enough to generate pre-digestive action (saliva production).
The whole area is really sore so wife pushing to see if something is wrong. I know I am going to get trolled incessantly for this, but it may save a life. Don't eat like a Duck.

I saved someone who was choking on 'Vaca Frita' a Cuban shredded beef dish. I was doing the Heimlich but the chunk of meat wasn't coughing up. Everyone around me was screaming panicking I just kept pumping away. I moved my grip a little higher under the diaphragm and gave it one last pump. I said to myself this is coughing up or I'm breaking his ribs. Out it came. One more minute and he may have been braindead.
That's...unusual. Glad you're okay.Count me as another near casualty. Early today was wolfing down some pork fried rice. Something went down wrong and I got real tight right in the middle of the chest. Food went down, but the tightness remained. Then I started hiccups, crazy hiccups. Took a drink of water and felt the urge to puke. Went and puked, nothing but water and flem. More water, more puking. The whole time my chest is tight as hell. No real problem breathing other than some panic hyperventilating going on. I'm guessing it was a gas bubble. Lucky the wife was home and with her decades of experience in Healthcare suggested a carbonated drink. Water would not go down but the Pepsi did, small sips. Maybe 5 minutes and finally a small belch. Then another and another over a period of 30 minutes or so. Then the massive, primal, toxic masculine belch and all was right in the world again. A bit different than choking on food, but damned uncomfortable. Root cause was the same though. Eating too damn fast.
It's probably something else, but it could be a sign of esophageal cancer. You might want to mention it to a doctor.Count me as another near casualty. Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
You may feel pain or a burning sensation when you swallow. Or your food may stick in your throat or chest.
These are the most common symptoms of oesophageal cancer.
A harmless narrowing of the oesophagus called a stricture can also make it difficult for you to swallow. It is important to get this symptom checked by your doctor.
Thanks for putting that in my head. It's probably something else, but it could be a sign of esophageal cancer. You might want to mention it to a doctor.

I did think of that as I have had a couple friends and family deal with it, and eventually it killed them all. I don't have any of the symptoms though, not one. I do have my annual physical coming up and I will mention the episode to the doc. Probably can look forward to a scope rammed down my throat on addition to a finger up my arse.

just loving the 70's as I age not so gracefully.
As a survivor of esophageal cancer (8 years since treatments ended), the detecting endoscopy was the most pleasant part of the experience. If I didn't have that done (the only symptom was black stool which stopped), I would not have survived.I do have my annual physical coming up and I will mention the episode to the doc.
