Cheney Throws Bush Under The Bush

Bush knew about CIA torture, says Cheney

President George W Bush was fully aware and an "integral part" of the CIA's torture of terror suspects, his vice-president Dick Cheney said Wednesday.

The long-awaited US Senate report released Tuesday on the program of harsh treatment and torture of detainees said Bush only learned details of it in 2006, four years after it started in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.

Detainees were beaten, waterboarded -- some of them dozens of times -- and humiliated through the painful use of medically unnecessary "rectal feeding" and "rectal rehydration", the report said.

Speaking to Fox News, Cheney denied Bush was kept out of the loop. He said the then-president "was in fact an integral part of the program and he had to approve it."

Asked if Bush knew specific details of how specific interrogations were being conducted, Cheney was more vague, saying: "We did discuss the techniques. There was no effort on our part to keep him from that."

Bush has yet to speak out publicly on the Senate report, which has drawn scathing criticism worldwide of what the CIA has called "enhanced interrogation techniques", amid and calls for those involved to face trial.

The CIA deliberately misled Congress and the White House about the value of the intelligence its interrogators were gathering, the report concluded.

What Religion are you Convertibility? Do you support conversion by the sword? Do you support flying planes into builidings.

Obviously Bush and the guys were not proud of this...it was done in secret. if you think George Bush is model Christian... what is Barack Obama the model for with his drone strikes killing innocents?

Why did it take so many years for this report to come out. The top dems were briefed on everything in the report. This report was a smoke screen to cover up the fact that the democrats lied to get Obamacare passed.

Yeah, that makes complete and total sense. Good call.

So according to Fox News, Dick Cheney, and the right, it is OK to torture if you get some information. Is that about right?

Because Dicky said the report is "crap" because we actually did get some info so the torturing is ok.

If Diane Feinstein's family was being held by ISIS and we captured one of their guys who could tell us how to rescue them, she would be demanding that the CIA put the screws to him. Is there anyone here who can honestly say they wouldn't?

I reserve a special kind of contempt for people who keep silent while others do the dirty but necessary work then come out after the threat has passed and start moralizing about how unacceptable it all was.

One of the points made by the democrats' report was a claim that no useful information was obtained. That was demonstrably false, as Cheney and several former CIA directors said. Then the report said, well, there is no way to tell if you couldn't have gotten the information by less intrusive means.

If people are plotting another 9/11, is it really a good idea to experiment and see what is the least stressful technique we could use? What if we got nothing? Wouldn't you want to go with the most certain way of getting answers if you are facing an imminent threat? If we used kid glove techniques, got no useful ino and suffered another 9/11 or worse, would Feinstein and the democrats be applauding the CIA for observing our traditional values? Doubtful.

At the end of the day, it's up to voters. I am reasonably certain if a nuclear bomb is about to go off, people want Jack Bauer doing the interrogation, not Pajama Boy.
