Checking connection delay with IB

If you want to know for sure which server you are connecting to, you can run https://www.wireshark.org/ and it will tell you.

Looking at the 9ms that Mervyn got I would say that you are correct and your connection does not go to the US directly.

A simple tracert or traceroute would do the trick. Nope ?
It shows the hops required to reach the server.

What's the latency after the order hits IB? Isn't that more important?
Yep, Compliance checks, 2 or more will take time also. BTW: it takes 200ms just to click a mouse.

But anyone who has traded when it is borderline disorderly, knows that a connection for home-retail is bad to horrible.
 
No, the point is to understand how long does it take for an instruction to reach IB. You don't really care of what happens "after". You can't control that anyway.
Actually you can control it. Some introducing brokers, and clearing merchants pre clear you account.
