Check Shortable through IB's Excel DDE?

Does anyone know if you can check if shares are available to short through IB's DDE for Excel API or must one step up to one of the other APIs to get this functionality?

You could do a web query of the full list straight into excel, then use vlookup to check if symbol is available.

For example use this URL for all US tickers:

Yes thank you. That is a good option and something I'd like build into the interface eventually but I am looking for something more like the Generic Tick functionality that would allow the code to incorporate this information into the "real-time" decision-making process.
