You guys really need to quit bitching about him. He is actually featured again in this month's Trader Monthly. He was reported to have made 15 to 20 million in 2004. That's right, while ET was starting 30 threads a week about how you can't make any money in this market, he made 20 million. Doesn't look like a one trick pony after all does he?

I sometimes wonder how one can prove what he made? I am skeptical of many people claiming these numbers unless they are audited brokerage statements available to see.

Quote from fxpeculator:

He himself states his trading approach only works well in a bull market. Zanger deserves credit for "good" work but he is not a Soros, Marcus, Tudor Jones, Kovner, Simons, Livermore, Rogers, Dennis, Henry, etc.

He is well into that group. If he has made $42,000,000 that ain't chump chain. How did he make those returns ? Momentum stocks? It certainly wasn't my kind of income generation trading where you make 5-9% returns every month.

Anyone know anything about the audited, actual real-world, real-money ten-year (1999-2008) track-record of Mr. Zanger’s hedge fund? How have his hedge fund(s) (Westwood Capital Partners, etc), managed accounts and other “real-world, real-money” funds/accounts performed?

What was the maximum leverage used? What was the worst drawdown? Volatility of monthly returns? Risk? Performance? How did the hedge fund(s) and accounts he manages perform during 2007-2008?

The bottomline is that Zanger made it big and managed to hold on to a chunk of it... that's good enough in my book...

Ya for real, and he has the papers that show the crazy percent gains that he made. He made himself into what he is from nothing.

This is quite funny. Anyone who challenges Zanger would kill to have his record and his equity. Alpha or no alpha, leveraged, bull market, blagh, blagh, blagh. Jealousy takes so many entertaining forms. i love watching traders trip all over themselves trying to make another's returns a point of reference in their own psyche. The truth is you can't imagine it because for YOU it isn't possible. Instead of rushing to discredit (which uses psychological muschles you're used to flexing) why not open your mind and try and discover why it DID work. You might give your own trading the boost it needs.

John Arnold has the best performance of any trader i have ever heard of..ever.

How many years did it take most wall street guys to make a billion for themselves? I do not know the avertage but it sure as hell wasn't 5 years.. this guy was analyzing Natural Gas for enron.. probably making 50 K a year and watched teh traders take his insight and make big bucks.. so he trades and becomes the highest paid trader at Enron. Starts a hedge fund .. meets makes solid enormous returns and gains massive equity from wealthy people.. then he makes a billion dollars (cash) by the way CASH!!! in a year.. thats 4 million per trading day!!!! he is not day trading but playing seasonal spreads in Natural Gas Futures and options .. not day trading.

Anyway never had the pleasure to meet him, but from what i gather he is no wall street prick and is as down to earth as most average people. He wind my vote for best trader..ever!

A very nice post indeed!!! Man you talk about someone, Zanger, who has the ability to let their profits run.

I consider myself a decent trader, but I will guarantee you I could have been looking over Dan's sholder and he could have put me into every one of his trades at the exact same time as he entered and then turned my trades over to me. There is no way I turn my $11,000 (what he started with) into even $1,000,000. I have no doubt I would have cut my profits way way way too soon! As I am also sure 99.99% of other traders would also have done.

I used to trade managed accounts for Paine Weber in 82 and 83. I would often send orders of 25,000 shares to the book just to see how the specialist handled that order before I got serious, so I have traded so serious SIZE!! I can only imagine the stones it takes to make and manage the trades Zanger made.

I only responded to this thread because of your post.

Registered May 2006 three post.

It made me think of a Monk I once heard about.

When he joined the order of Monks, he took a vow of silence. He would only speak two words every ten years.

At the end of his first ten years he met with the Head Monk. The Head Monk ask him what he had to say. He replied, "Food cold."

At the end of the second ten year period he said, "Bed hard."

At the end of the third ten year periond the Head Monk ask what he had to say, this time he replied, "I quit."

The Head Monk said, "Well, I'm not surprise, you've done nothing but bitch ever since you got here!!!!

Nice to have you break your silence. Hope to see more posts from you.
