Central Bank Swaps

Hello experts,

I have been lurking on the various boards here for quite awhile and thought I would jump in with a question. I searched the forums but could not find out much info on this.

What are the mechanics around two central banks doing a currency swap? Do they exchange directly or do they go through some sort of clearinghouse? Swap transactions published somewhere? Was curious on the activity and the impact on the public market.

It is recommended that Bank swaps be sold to investment professionals due to their complexity. But it is claimed Bank swaps were marketed and sold to ordinary investors, who merely understand the risks of Bank swaps. Many high street Bank is believed to have sold over 150,000 of these products.
