CCW holder arrested for leaving his gun locked up safely at home

It's sad but you should never talk to a cop especially if it's anything more serious than a traffic violation even then be careful. Yes sir, no sir here's my ID is about it.

these idiots can't normalize things to percentages... they really don't understand that. It's very hard for a lot of us to come to grips with the incompetence around us.

He's good with emoticons, though.

How did the cop know he was a gun owner?

Is it possible they can run plates and cross reference CCW databases?

He should get an attorney and sue for violation of his constitutitonal right to travel, false arrest, etc.

I'm 99% sure here in Oklahoma, all CCW's issued to Oklahoma residences are crossed with the person's drivers license in the data banks. An Officer has available that information, also it's available for the registered owner of the vehicle via the tag#. That went into effect last year if I'm correct.

Police here like the CCW registration, it truly represents you as a good guy if you're able to pass the background tests and are willing to lawfully abide the CCW laws. The story has to be missing something or that officer was either having a real bad day, or needs lots of additional training.

This is pretty much how it is here in Florida. I was stopped by an officer on a routine traffic stop. The officer told me he noted that I had a CCW, and asked me if I had the weapon on me. I replied "It wouldn't do much good to have the CCW if I didn't." He smiled and just said "yeah, figured I'd ask. Is it loaded?" I just gave him a silly look and he smiled sheepishly.

Ended up letting me go with no issue.

Considering the intent of the 2nd amendment, should the police know who has a firearm? Everyone should be assumed to have one, and precaution taken accordingly.
