where i'm at now.. i've decided to get away from the expiration trades.. because i was irresponsible and took a hit for it.. now i'm just trying to trade flys and futures.. i tried a fly on the MA a little to far dated to take advantage of the stillness .. if i was in dec i would have been out by now will profit likely.. i have a dec 7 + BOT 1 SPX DEC 07 '12 + 1375 - (2)1405 + 1435 Call Butterfly 10.40 USD SMART NOV 29 15:41:31 OptTrader 5.40 null

as well.. i tried to offer it at 11.60 today.. and it just wouldn't go through... i guess you just have to figure that your gonna have to enter above the mid and exit below it.. and just figure the bleed into modeling the trade..
i slowed down my trading a good bit.. i still need to spend a little time looking at what my proposed profit is given my time frame.. going out two months on a fly put me way to neutral on the MA fly..

MA JAN 18 '13 + 425 - (2)475 + 525 Call Butterfly @ 24.47

also have a vm future on

thought to buy more around 15.. never got there.. we will see how it goes

Interesting point. I was just mulling over this one because a few paper trades I put in at the mid simply did not take. I know paper is not really the same as actual in terms of execution, but if it did not trade through then it may not have executed anyway.

Some of the fly spreads are wide so this makes finding the sweet spot a challenge.

I was actually contemplating asking atticus how he goes about his entries and exits. Missing a good entry or exit because it did not hit the mid would be a real bummer.

I average something like 30-cents OFF mid across all fills. Doobs routinely beats my fills, on virtually all trades in my journal.

Your size is bigger then doobies though... don't think that matters? I've generally lost money trying to save a little near the mid.. I get filled only when the market moves hard against me..

Haha yeah just sitting on the bid.

However, you always beat my fills on the way out.

And yes cavey, he does trade bigger size, thanks for rubbing it in jk.

I am doing a little better.. still sitting in the MA fly... dead flat practially.. at this point any rally in the spx is going to hurt that position.. it seems to move good up when the market goes up.. and sits flat when the market goes down.. i got out of a few positions... i am still making an error on exit.. instead of putting in a marketable order i'm posting a little above the mid such that i don't get filled untill the market is going in my way.. and in that case i'm losing profit or just missing the fill completely..

out of the spx fly.. followed Atty on this one.. alot of gamma risk. .but paid off very nice.. entry at 10.40

as you can see my commission should be 3.70 but i mess with the orders to much and it costs me cancellation fees.. that costs me edge in the long run. plus i exited the vm future flat trying to save 5 bucks.. then the market filled my order as it past by to 16.35
