Career as FX technical analyst/chartist

I think your question is misguided, and the discussion in this thread is yet another unappealing iteration of a number of such threads that preceded it. But here a few thoughtful insights to ponder:

Some of the musings come across as a bit new-agey, but there is wisdom to be found here.

Hey Frederick Foresight,

Thanks for the link and even though I've seen them before, they never fail to teach me/sink in deeper with me every time I read it.

Cheers and good trading to you!

Or maybe all this to hype a book you directly or indirectly profit from?

Much gratitude for all the feedback guys..both negative and positive and I believe both gives us things to think about.

Nevertheless, fundamental/technical/throwing darts at a board/chart..whatever it takes to make money and if you can then great!

For me I strongly believe in TA first and if the fundamentals do agree with my bias then great but if not then it doesn't matter. Had my fair share of skepticism on TA but this book 'Mind Over Markets' by James Dalton pretty much cleared it for me whether technical analysis works.

And whether whoever thinks TA/fundamentals/throwing darts is profitable or not..
'Whether you think you can or can't, you're both right' - Henry Ford (Not trying to be all wise here but this doesn't apply to just trading but in any aspect of life I feel)

Hope this closes the debate for this thread regarding TA works or not because that is not much of the point of this thread and rather if there was a career in being a chartist/technical analyst.

Many thanks to all of you for the invaluable advice. I am certain I would not have been able to answer the questions I had without your help.

Good trading and have a merry christmas guys!

Cheers!

Thanks, and to you as well. You may wish to look at the quotes of some of the other trading luminaries, whose links are at the bottom of the page. Worth the read. I linked Seykota because I like his ponderings on catching waves. But you will find a good amount of material with some of the other noted traders like PTJ and so on.

To trade successfully, think like a fundamentalist; trade like a technician. It is imperative that we understand the fundamentals driving a trade, but also that we understand the market's technicals. When we do, then, and only then, can we or should we, trade

. Keep your technical systems simple. Complicated systems breed confusion; simplicity breeds elegance.

Why would hire a techie?

Good god, Is Marketsurfer starting the "TA" debates again? Creating controversy all so he can shill his book?

It starts with bumping threads referring to himself in the 3rd person.

Now he is insulting people, suggesting someone get a job at Starbux inferring that they have no other value due to TA.

Makes one wonder how Marketsurfer/SouthHampon earns his money. Surely can't be from the one or two generic calls he makes averaging down into a position, taking massive heat on size, but never adding to his winning positions.

From previous posts it was my understanding he lost a large sum of his ex-wife's money trading. Sued her for Alimony. Lost more money trading his friends money who committed suicide. Now leaching off his wife's salary, kayak fishing and shilling some generic book he compiled from ET threads he trolled. Least we forget his $120 Nadex account.

Some nerve, suggesting someone isn't good enough to make it in the trading world and apply at starbuck's... Those that live in a glass house shouldn't throw stones....

@Baron I know it was a business decision to allow the previously Banned Marketsurfer back to post his dribble. He is going back to his old ways, won't take long before he pulls the site down again...

The truth will set you free
