Card to support 4 monitors

Monitor choice really is personal preference. I have a 26" that seemed way to big in terms of how big it is compared with it's resolution. It's a samsung, and no vesa mounts on it either.

Again, it's really what you like. If you like things bigger (say your eyesight is not great for example) than a bigger monitor might be a must.

I had a 22 inch CRT monitor that I ran at a painfully small 1600x1200 resolution that I used to trade back a while, and I liked everything small for the extra screen space it gave me. On that note, 21.5 inch screens are pretty small, considering they run the same resolution as bigger monitors.

I don't look at size, I look at the resolution you run per the given size.

My monitors now are 23 inch widescreen, not 24 inch. Slightly wider than a 24" is, as a 24 inch is taller usually (more vertical screen space).

I like my size, as I can fit a lot of them on one desk, as compared with bigger screens. But it really is personal preference what size you go with.

My main screens are 30 inch though. I'd have considered a high resolution smaller wide screen if they existed when I ordered mine. They are cheaper and fit more in a given physical space than a 30 inch does.
 
OMG... reading this thread is like a drama unfolding. So many pages into it and still no resolution. :)

It seems you were going in circle for a while. Either looking at high-end game cards (require dual slot width for one card), or a dual card that has one VGA port.

Well... no use to look at cards that support 2560x1600. Because your MONITOR only goes to 1920x1080.

You are getting 4 x 27-inch monitors. Take this advice from me, one who uses almost 30 monitors in one setting. When you go with 6 monitor and eventually 8 monitor set up, you WILL regret having such a big size monitor. Such a big physical size without added higher resolution is just a waste of wall space. When you have 8 x 27-inch monitors in an array, you neck will hate you... :) All my latest monitors are 21.5 inch. And I regret so much for buying so many 24-inch monitors early on. I wish they make 19-inch monitors with 1920x1080 resolution.
 
TigerDirect and CompuUsa is practically the same company. I could not find it online at Tiger direct. However at the store they have a quad monitor video card for about $250 or less. The monitor stands are about $100. You will need 2x of those to support 4 monitors.

Instead of purchasing a monitor, buy a "24 TV for about $30 more. The difference between a Monitor and TV, a monitor does not have an integrated TV turner card. The advantage call your local cable provider and have him run a coaxial cable near the TV. Add a cable box and Watch Mad Money and CNBC while trading. Something you can do with a monitor.

You total cost should not exceed $800 with Card, 4v "24" TV's and 2 duo monitor stands.

Yeah, 21.5 inch seem the sweet spot for size/resolution. 30 inch doesn't gain you very much in terms of resolution, and they are huge physically. My 23 inch screens are just a bit bigger than 21.5, so I can accept that.

1. If you're buying New, looks like the NVS 300 is less expensive.

Does the 2260 have the same "paired monitor" requirement like the 2460? NVS has no such requirements.

Otherwise, they were designed to be more-or-less equivalent.

I used ATI (now AMD) cards years ago. Then went to Matrox, then NVS. I've been using NVS through the 280, 285, 290, and now 295. (I've messed with the NVS 300, too. Basically the same as 295 except has DMS-59 instead of DP ports on card. Might use 300s sometime in the future, however.) No plans to change, even if FirePro cards come down in price.

I don't hate FirePro/FireMV, but I would not choose them over NVS.

Well, might later get monitor(s) with higher resolution. It doesn't cost any more to have 2560x1200 res max instead of 1920x1200.

I used 1920x1200 for years and though it excellent. I now have a Planar 27", 2560x1440... it's even MORE excellent. :D

I like 1920x1200 in portrait mode... 24".

I don't think they do, but we'll see how they work. I got a couple to try them out.

Looks like there is a firepro 2270 out now too.
