Card to support 4 monitors

If you read through the thread, I twice said how you could connect with NVS... would require HDMI-DVI cables.

Caveat.... with the Sapphire card, you can connect directly with same-end cables, which is preferable. With the "NVS solution" and your monitors, you'd have to rely upon the "HDMI-DVI" cable working the way it's supposed to. Sometimes hardware doesn't "like" adapters (like a cable with different types of connectors on each end). Probably works like it says, but don't know for sure until we try.

No big risk. 2 Sapphire cards are what, $60? If they don't work or don't last, you're not out much. Or if they don't work, you can probably return them for refund.

Is the DMS-DVI Dual cable included in amazon. It has no pic.

Now I am able to understand. Just wanted to make sure that my understanding is correct:

1) NVS 300 supports 2 monitors (and it clearly states so in newegg.com)
2) Hopefully if i purchase from amazon, they should supply with DMS cable. This cable is shown in newegg website. 1 DMS 59 goes into the graphics card. It comes out with 2 DVI Dual.
3) I purchase an adapter to connect my HDMI monitors to DVI-Dual.

I repeat the above steps again for a total of 4 monitor set up.

Good thing about this is that it has no fans. So I don't have to worry about fans dying out.

Next, it consumes very little power only 17.5 Watts.

Lastly, as stated by you, this is "future proof".

Do you think if i buy from amazon, they come with DMS59 to DVI Dual Lik cable? If not, I guess, I can always buy it.


I have decided to purchase 2 of these cards. Not sure from amazon.com or from newegg.com

Your points of understanding appear to be correct... except any reference to "dual link".. does not apply. And as for "future proof", that's only up to 2560x1600. If you go for higher resolution, you'll need new video cards.

If you read down the Amazon page, it says "includes DMS-59-to-DVI cable"... However, it is single link... 1920x1200 max resolution supported... which is OK for your monitors.

Yes, you'll need "HDMI-DVI cables"... 3 of them. Check Monoprice.com for best prices.. they come in various lengths. Your 4th monitor, you can just connect DVI-DVI on the DMS-59. If Monoprice has both single-link and dual-link in this cable, get the single-link.

Buying new from either place, at least you get full 3-yr warranty... not that you're ever likely to need it. Amazon is cheaper, I'd go with that.

About a year ago I helped Dell Tech Support on a troubleshooting exercise which included NVS 300. The cards worked perfectly. The trouble area was elsewhere.

Rather than "over/under monitors on a stand", how about side-by-side in portrait mode? Accomplishes similar objective. Do your monitors have pivot capability?

I have part of my array in portrait mode sitting on a 30" x 72" utility table I got from a business supply house.... $60.
 
This is regarding the ASUS monitors that I am looking to buy. This one has a 3 year warranty as opposed to 1 year given by Samsung. In addition, these monitors have a built in speakers.

So audio is transmitted through HDMI and Displayport does not transmit audio. So if i connect through displayport, how can i get audio from Monitor? since this monitor has a built in speaker inside ?
 
Going back to video cards, what is the advantage of an NVS 295 over a Firepro 2260?

Monoprice sells active adapters for $15, and amazon sells female mini to full size male displayport 6 inch adapters for $7, so for about $22 an adapter you should be able to get 2 DVI ports like the NVS 300 has, and the option to switch to displayport later. The firepro 2260's support 2560x1600 too.

I just got two firepro 2260's for $15.50 each shipped on ebay, I'm gonna give this a try in place of my second gpu, as they run cooler and are smaller than a full size card, which also takes up two slots (though they power six monitors in comparison with a hub).
