Thats the news here in SOCAL from my friend who works in the auto industry.
Car dealers stopped paying commissions to sales people - they get $8/hr now.

True enough! Many dealerships are going to salary only. I know several people in the business and they are actually laying people off. Commissioned car salesmen being laid off!! It's unheard of. There is just no floor traffic.
Anybody who can sell a car in these times should be given a car for selling a car. You can reduce excess inventory that way.
