so schwab told us to upgrade to java 17 and then headed straight into maintenance mode over sunday. NOW we can't login as they tell us "you are having technical difficulties" and to call the support teams. Anyone else seeing this?
we're using linux mint and proton vpn. We are technically competent.

Hello,
are you using the ThinkorSwim Linux native release not Windows? Were you ever able to fix your log-in problem? My understanding is Linux TOS requires Java 11 or 17 and that the following command configures Linux to use 11 or 17:
sudo update-alternatives --config java

This checks your Java version:
java -version

If you are able to fix this problem on Linux Mint please LMK and how you fixed it. My understanding is Schwab already has or will stop supporting their Linux release of TOS.

using linux mint java 17 sudo apt install ( not on machine so can't remember how I did it) We're already making plans to leave schwab because of recent behavior. Shame really because we know Tom Sosnoff and Tony Batista personally and they created a WONDERFUL product in ThinkorSwim. The TD folks were good custodians of the TOS platform. Schwab are causing many issues but it's their product now. My wife LOVES to use a bunch of scripts we added ( thinkscript) which she uses to get trade ideas using sdmove HV analysis and trend analysis. I'll code those using python, jupyter lab, pandas and use IB api to get the data feed. Not a problem my end. Finding the IB api excellent even after we had to move off ib_insync with the death of the great ewald. I miss him.

ALSO I'm not going to spend any time fixing this. We'll just move the accounts to IB and "suggest" the rest of our chums do the same. I understand why schwab are doing what they are doing but it's not for us. Tom Perkins was our chairman and Ceo and he taught us not to get excited about this stuff, it's not personal just business. Schwab did their homework prior to the acquisition and understand the ramifications of dropping linux. It's probably not their user demographic.

I'd like to be able to use TOS in Linux native. Not using Linux Mint but want to switch from Windows. I do have a smartphone I can use to correct certain problems if necessary. I'm hoping Schwab will change their minds when more people switch to Linux.

I don't know if you are using the IB API to get real-time data or end of day. This YouTube Playlist has videos on how to access the Interactive Brokers API using Python, numbers 49 to 56. These videos are 4 years old.
 
We're just dumping schwab. We only stayed with them for the thinkscript stuff I put in a LONG time ago. It was easier than hacking around with the IB api in those days but NOW all is different.

for the api? We tend to use a wrapper around the api using julia BUT we are looking at mojo.

I think the only other way is to run ToS for Windows 10 in a virtual machine (Windows 10) inside Linux or using Wine or Bottles. I believe there is an input lag with a VM. I don't know how well Wine or Bottles work. They are constantly improving Wine and Bottles. Use at your own risk.

There is a small chance Schwab will restart supporting ToS for Linux when more users switch to Linux. Linux is getting better everyday. This is only my opinion of course.
