Can't Cut Postal Service - 20% Of Employees Are Black

that is pretty entertaining and rings true for me 20 years ago.
I have found them to be better since competing with fed ex.

maybe I have been lucky local with post offices in san diego.
I probably only go there once a month.

Quote from pspr:

I see you haven't stood in line at a post office in the last 20 years.

While you're in line:

They go on break and close their window,
No one replaces them,
They refuse to man the window because they don't do that,
They don't know where your package is, come back tomorrow,
If the line gets longer they close another window and send him/her on break,
If the clock strikes 5 and you are in line, Go home and try tomorrow,
If you complain, that will be $5 more to ship your package (yes, this has happened to me),
Oh, you only need a stamp, go to the end of the line.

Are the black postal workers worse? I don't know because most of them can't speak intelligible English so they don't get put on the windows.

Quote from jem:

I suspect its crazy retirement plans.

It's basically the same scenario in every large public sector entity with enormous legacy costs. There is just no possible way to generate enough growth to pay for the legacy benefits.

Meanwhile, the taxpayer and the consumer (oftentimes with little alternative due to their monopoly nature) are burdened with the futile attempt of "saving" these organizations.

same situation at many DMV's, courthouses, social security offices, etc, etc...hordes of people waiting, hordes of employees standing around doing alot of nothing...
