Can't buy canandian stocks through IB

I tried to buy at the TSE it says 'no trading access, account settings'(I had already subscribed for them). My base currency is USD, the ib site it says you cant make a cash buy in a different currency as the base currency.Really then why on earth does IDEAL exists?
Will I really need to setup an advisor account to make an CAD subaccount?

I had TSE access on my retail USD based account and had no problem trading those stocks.

I have a similar problem - can't trade MHI (mini hang seng) futures because I'm a US resident.

all kinds of regulatory crap.
 
I think you have two things to fill out, one is "market data" and the other is "trading permission". For trading permissions you may have to answer a few questions so they know what you are doing

i dont think they make anything from data do they? you might need to check under trading permissions. or move to canada:D

You need a margin account to trade products in non-base currency.
 
Trading on the TSX (Toronto) easily was the original reason I signed up for IB. It works great -- much better than my prior broker in this area.

On the margin requirement -- I wonder if you can pre-convert and hold CAD ahead of the trade? Can't say as I always open margin account.

On the pricing for data -- wish Japan data were cheaper (must be the GL markup, if in fact IB doesn't further mark data prices up -- though I think NASDAQ Level II is marked up somewhat, vs. MarketVision). There're definitely some issues on the TSE (Tokyo) of interest.
