I will note that many Fortune 500 companies now require social media postings by top executives to be cleared with the company as part of employment contracts -- whether it is on private or corporate social media accounts.

The executives are also required to disclose all private social media accounts used by the executives to the company -- this avoids what is now known as the "Whole Foods situation" where their CEO used anonymous accounts to trash smaller competitors -- in order to tank their stock price so Whole Foods could buy them.

No matter which side of the "voting rights' issue a company takes you are offending about 1/3 of your customers... and a good number of politicians who regulate you.

American Airlines came out swinging in Texas on the other side of the voting rights issue directly out of the gate and is also getting blow-back from customers and politicians.

I understand that. You can't please everyone.

Say something, someone's offended. Remain silent, others are offended. My point is simply to remind us that regardless of what we think, we should remember that it's always the business' choice, and should remain their choice--for better or worse.

Blow back comes with life. If you never get some blow-back, you're doing it wrong. Too much blow-back, you're doing it wrong.

And look at all the blow-back you get.

A business should let their blow-back be about how they are treating their customers, how they are treating their employees, and how they are meeting their financials to remain a viable entity.

Sticking your foot (as a business) into the minefield of politics unnecessarily is foolish.

Again, a business may disagree with you.

A business may not want to support customers using its service to interfere with a US election, or plan violence, for example. Some will consider this a political decision.

Regardless, it's up to the business.

Again, businesses are a group of ... people.

EDIT: Unlike some people; I'm glad some businesses have a moral compass, and a measure of ethics about them.
