Canadian Politics: Stephen Harper's footprint

So you've supposedly "evolved" more intelligence in just a few short decades? I didn't realize the human brain "evolved" so rapidly.



Lets say for the sake of argument, after being conservative my whole life, that I decide to vote for Dumbo in 2012 and not only that but I'm going to embrace all things liberal. I believe in socialism, distribution of wealth, MMGW, big government, tax the rich, forced integration, racial quotas, the whole smear. And now that I'm a liberal I'm also going to declare that I'm more intelligent and better informed than anyone who disagrees with the liberal dogma which I now embrace. Oh yeah, and everyone who disagrees with my liberal views is obviously a racist.

The question is did I suddenly become more intelligent when I decided to become a liberal?

I've always been a fairly conservative guy, but I DO NOT necesarily support all things "conservative". Keeping in mind that some things/people conservative are so in name only.

Paragraph 1 - I respect your different political view. I don't understand it. I don't condone it. I don't like it. But you are entitled to your opinion. I just like to ask questions to try to understand the mind of a Liberal supporter.

I thought Harper was calm and confident. He didn't lose his temper when the other three parties ganged up on him. He didn't land any knockout blows, but he didn't stumble either. The same could be said for the other leaders I suppose. With the exception of Duceppe. I think he lost some points last night with his insistence on bringing up the letter that Harper signed in 2004.

Layton was typical Layton. I thought he came across well and actually busted out some decent humor. His comment about crooks in the senate gave me a chuckle. The best rant of the night though had to be when Layton called out Iggy for missing 70% of the votes in parliment and having the WORST attendance record in the House of Commons. Layton pointed out the fact that most Canadians who don't go to work don't get promotions. How true, how true.

Iggy missed a chance to gain some ground I think. He stuck to the topics of fighter jets and transparency. Harper countered with the fact that the fighter jets are to be paid for over many years, and in the grand scheme of things are a reasonable purchase to give the Air Force the planes they need to be effective. He didn't make too many gaffes, but he certainly didn't do enough to win him an election.

Tories destined for a majority: Pollster

Stephen Harper's Conservatives have gained a massive 21-point lead over Michael Ignatieff's Liberals, according to a new COMPAS Research poll obtained exclusively by QMI Agency.

"The way things are going, he's destined for a majority," Winn said. "The only chance they have is to prevent him from forming a majority, and for that they would need far higher public confidence in the leaders of the opposition than exists."

I think Harper did well. He was sufficiently prime ministerial in his demeanor. Layton held his own and did quite well also. I wish Ignatieff focused more on Harper's reliance on high-end, supply-side trickle-down, which is a bankrupt economic "theory" for the simple reason that tax cuts do not pay for themselves. (How many jobs did Bush create during his 8 years in office using his magic bean supply-side?) Also, I wish he also addressed the Conservatives' Republican-style personal attack ads. In this way, with the Republican-style economics and Republican-style personal attack ads, Ignatieff could have painted Harper as the George W. Bush of Canadian politics.

Regardless of the polls, I will vote for Mr. Ignatieff because his views are the most closely aligned with my own.
