You shouldn't have mentioned socialist, communist and separatist, the labels put on any of the politicians are meant to mislead. The world moved a long time ago from far ranging theories like this, I bet you think Harper has the right ideology?
As for your arguments that he is doing all the right things, completely false. First you speak through your "small government" lense as Harper loves to define himself, when any country out there knows to invest in infrastructure during times of recession. I'm not saying to prop up dead sectors, I'm saying infrastructure which is a key element to long term growth.
The government didn't do the right things when it came to mortgages, I guess you conveniently forgot it was Flaherty as finance minister of Ontario under Mike Harris that allowed 0% down mortgages. Or maybe you weren't even aware? Where do you get your sources, the National Post or something? His very modest increases are only covering his ass and of playing politics to make it look like they are "ahead of the curve".
All Harper does is this, he gives token policies left and right while passing through big ones that will hurt the country long term. tax-free saving account? Am I supposed to be impressed? You again conveniently forgot how he killed income trusts and lost billions of dollars in revenues. Bring those back would have been way better than these tax-free savings accounts. Tell me, will you keep your money in tax-free saving accounts? If you're a piker, you might. For everyone else you keep it invested.
Or what about the time Harper pretended to help the auto sector with a few millions to help for capital purchases, wow! Their own economist said that 1% change in the CAD USD exchange rate has a bigger impact than the money Harper gave them. Like I said, he's a great politician but he's robbing the country before our noses.
Oh and the best one, he didn't bailout banks! How about this headline :
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/081112/national/economy_flaherty_7
They bought $50 billions worth of "excellent" mortgages from canadian banks, you multiply that times 10 it's almost as big as the US bailout designed to buy the bad mortgages originally. Did you even know about this one? I'm sure the banks are in better shape, but it's very suspicious they are buying so many mortgages. There is a RE bubble in Canada too. Have you ever seen the new condos they made? They're all so small, they're purely for speculation, not for living. Have you looked at the RE section in the newspaper?
As for the autosector, what they're asking IS bridge loans here in Canada, even the US they're not asking for a bailout the size of banks. I think it's obvious they'll want to keep the money spend on canadian jobs.
And this is in short how you brainwash people. Punish a few half lies in the newspaper, "forget" to report some other facts, play revisionist historian, use labels and other PR tactics to manipulate people etc.
I care because I'm canadian, I'm not an auto sector worker or someone on welfare, I want what's best for my country, for all I know Harper would lower capital gains taxes. After a while, with so many people voting against their own interests you stop fighting for them. We'll see where the country is going, I personally have a very bad feeling with Harper and like-minded assholes at the helm.
