Canada, generally speaking -- there are many exceptions -- has better public education. Public education is the bulwark of democracy with universal suffrage . Dramatic changes brought by Johnson's "great society" , which were well meaning but proved damaging, are responsible for the genesis of the decline in America's public education. Generations of less well educated politicians and constituents caused further deterioration of public education and accelerated social and moral decline. (Technically, this is an example of societal positive feedback.) Because of feedback, the decline has been more rapid than anyone might have guessed. We have now a mafia style government at the top, approved by ~38% of the country and kept in power by the U.S. Senate. At any time from the dawn of the Twentieth Century until now it would have been unthinkable to separate arrested children and parent immigrants, lose track of the parents and imprison the children indefinitely in concrete cages without the barest essentials to maintain their health; yet ~38% of our population is now willing to champion the persons responsible for this barbarism. Not even the cruel, illogical internment of American citizens of Japanese heritage in the 1940s stooped to such barbaric lows.

Federal and provincial income taxes are manageable in British Columbia (liberal), can't beat the small business corporate income tax either, a total of 12% (federal and provincial). Capital gains tax is also quite attractive.

Personal tax rates ( net of various credits ) have been slowly dropping for 20 years now. They peaked in the 1980s and most of the 1990s when Canada had to pay down the federal debt which went to something like 110-120% of the GDP. Coincidentally, the US is at the exact same spot we were in in that regard before the taxes went up.

Then you have studied very little of Japanese American internments and misappropriation of their property and wealth. Not a penny has been taken from any of the kids that were caught illegally crossing the border. There are individual cases that raise questions but arguing that there is a wide range of inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants who crossed ILLEGALLY and hence are criminals and should at best either be immediately kicked out or otherwise incarcerated and to compare that with American citizens of Japanese origin who swore allegiance to defend America (and who have done so in countless cases during WW1 and during WW2) and never acted in any treasonous ways is preposterous.

You are hardly Canadian then. Most of us would never make this statement and are glad we are different then the US in some very important ways. I see two types of people in Toronto; one group are long term residents and people who love this country. Two, some proportion of recent immigrants are obsessed about the US but somehow ended up in Canada. They tend to send their kids to private schools and insist on looking into American colleges. Tremendous waste of money on both fronts.

It's a free world you are free to operate as you wish the point is this is not how the vast majority of Canadians view their country. The school aspect is just a fact we have a good public school system that feeds into a affordable, quality university system ( or colleges for trades etc ).

I've personally always viewed Canadians as a proud, industrious people. It's a huge Country with abundant natural resources with a smallish population of about 38M that is largely homogeneous racially with Caucasians at somewhere around 79 percent of the demographic.

There's an awful lot of Canadian Nationals working and living in the United States.

This is nothing to do with incarceration for illegal activity, confiiscation of property or wealth. It has to do with basic morality. Get a grip. In the 1940s we didn't take kids away from their parents and lose track of which kids belong to which parent(s) and the parent's location! And we didn't keep the kids in cages and deny them access to a means of drinking water, toothbrushes, room to lie down, showers, soap, clean clothes, health care. We have reached a new level of barbarity officially sanctioned by our government and ~38% of the population. That should be of great concern to you. And this is not 1942!
