Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

Ontario reports more than 3,300 new COVID-19 cases as ICU admissions hit record high
TORONTO -- Ontario is reporting more than 3,300 new COVID-19 cases as the number of patients in intensive care hits 900 for the first time in the pandemic.

Looks like the Toronto area is still struggling although there are signs that the rate of new infections is letting up a bit thanks to the Trump vaccines, and other vaccine that they robbed from WHO inventory for third world countries.

The arrival of summer in Toronto should help a bit although the problem is that they do not really have much in the way of summer there. The lake is frozen over until about the first of July. Then summer is from July15 to August 15 on a good year.

So let's just do a quick comparison. The population of Florida is 21.5 Million. The population of Ontario is 14.5 Million. The ratio of .67

The number of cases in Ontario is 3300 while the number of cases in Florida is 5400. A ratio of .61

On any type of cases per million calculation the everyday COVID situation in Florida is worse than the "crisis" in Ontario. Of course, the government of Florida ignores & hides all the variants, the wide-scale spread, and under-reports their numbers.

The ICUs in many Florida counties have been full for weeks.

Just sayin. The fake Canadians are the ones who reported long and continuously for months that everything was groovy in Canada compared to the US.

They are the ones reporting that their ICU's are at record highs not me. You have joined the Canadian mentality which says that as long as Americans are having problems, everything is okay in Canada. I have not gone full Florida, full DeSantis and full Gaetz for various baseline comparisons as you do with all matters these days. If Canadians - especially in Toronto- can be assuaged by pointing out that there are problems in Florida too, I suspect that works better for you and the fake Canadians here. The Canadians- not so much.

Otherwise they have had a bitch of a problem with covid and a bitch of a problem with vaccines and they have ZERO basis for getting uppity with anyone- including and especially the Americans.

Karma has given them a sizeable trip to the woodshed.

The facts show that COVID Cases, Hospitalizations, and Deaths are still much higher in the U.S. on a per population basis than they are in Canada. We have arrived at the point in the U.S. where we simply accept our daily COVID toll -- which is at a level that other sane countries call a fiasco or surge.

Yeah things recently got "bad" in Canada... but they simply don't approach the level of COVID disaster in the U.S. --- the only thing saving us is the vaccine.. and now thanks to Trump-voting COVID-deniers we have hit a wall in vaccine acceptance that will not allow our country to reach herd immunity. Which basically means that Trumpers want to stay locked down forever.

Your whole act smells of desperation. Somewhere in your life you got destroyed one way or another by some Canadians and you've never gotten over it.

Look I know you are a little thick but Canada's Covid numbers aren't just a little better then US numbers, they are three times better. And when it comes to a disease that kills people a country can't accept those kind of results. The performance of the US under Trump dealing with Covid was in a word horrendous. No amount of "oh, look, Canada had some Covid issues in April" is going to change that. That's just you whining about Canada again letting out your emotions. Frankly, it's pathetic.

Uh oh. Ontario covid cases rising again.

Not to worry. The American vaccines and the ones they robbed from the supply for third world countries have continued to arrive and should start to make a difference very soon. 40% of Toronto residents have received their first shot. Let's just say, those shots did not come from Canada.

Hopefully, they will be able to put this shameful period in their history behind them in the next month or so.

Canada Will Require Using A Vaccine Passport For Entry

A significant majority of Canadians like the idea of a vaccine passport for international travel and it appears that their government is going to deliver a solution.

Canadian Health Minister Patty Hajdu says her government supports the idea of a “vaccine passport” and will come up with a form of vaccine certification to allow vaccinated Canadians to travel internationally.

Nearly eight in 10 Canadians (78%) agree (including 56% who strongly agree) that all travelers entering Canada should be required to have a vaccine passport, according to a new Ipsos survey. Comparatively, a smaller majority of Americans (71%) agree that travelers should be required to show a vaccine passport before entering the United States.

About three in four (72%) Canadians agree that vaccine passports would be effective in making travel and large events safe, which is in line with the global average of 73%, and significantly more than in the United States, where 61% agree.

“Canadians need to be able to have the right kind of certification for international travel because, as we know, Canadians will want to travel internationally, and they will want to make sure they have the right credentials to do that from a vaccination perspective,” Hajdu said during a recent interview with CBC Radio.

Her remarks were in step with those of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who, during a news conference last week, said that vaccination certifications were a part of international travel before Covid-19 and are “naturally to be expected when it comes to this pandemic and the coronavirus.”

As more people around the world become vaccinated and the summer travel season approaches, countries around the world are scrambling to get digital health certification programs in place. French President Emmanuel Macron recently told CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Americans who are vaccinated or able to show a negative Covid-19 test result may be able to travel to France as soon as this summer, thanks to the European Union’s plans for a digital green certificate.

Like the United States, Canada has been in talks with other countries about finding consensus on universally acceptable solutions. “I am meeting on a regular basis with my G7 counterparts and this is an ongoing conversation about how that might look and how we might be able to have some sort of standardized approach to this,” Hajdu told the CBC.

What if you enter Canada illegally?

Can you still just come right in, no questions asked and no vaccination certificate required as the Americans allow? Or should I say "as the Americans encourage."

Canada developed no vaccine was basicly a cheapskate when it came to helping out with the funding for other countries. And yes, we know Trudeau chipped in some piddling amount lately, to compensate for pilfering vaccines intended for the third world.

Let's just say that A LARGE per cent of Canada immigrant population is from India and they are not happy with the poor showing by Canada -at home and internationally- on the covid front.

Note that this doctor is a professor in Toronto at the school of public health. It should come as no surprise to viewers that the fake Canadians here on the forum do not necessarily represent the only views in Canada or Toronto.

Oh the shame of it all.

As India sees record COVID-19 cases, experts say Canada isn't doing enough to share vaccines

As India continues to break COVID-19 records, Dr. Prabhat Jha said Canada could have done more to strengthen the global distribution of vaccines.

"That would have been a commitment for more funding to COVAX," Jha, an epidemiologist and professor at the Centre for Global Health at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health, told Cross Country Checkup. COVAX is a global vaccine-sharing initiative jointly co-ordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance.

"It certainly could have done more by calling for the G20 to make sure that vaccines were very equitably distributed," Jha said.

"And it certainly could have put more emphasis on identifying that the scale of capacity for manufacturing, which belatedly Canada is trying to do, would have not just a focus on supplying vaccines for Canada but for the world."
