Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine deliveries to Canada increasing to 2 million doses each week

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference on Friday that Pfizer will be increasing its deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines to two million doses a week, from the U.S., starting next week.

“This will mark another major ramp up. We will continue to work with provinces and territories to get these doses to Canadians as quickly as possible,” Trudeau said.

Throughout the pandemic, Pfizer has been sending Canada doses from Belgium, when American plants were off limits due to export controls put in place by the Trump administration.

But Procurement Minister Anita Anand says Pfizer will now start producing Canada’s doses from Michigan.

The production shift assures Canada’s supplies will not be hit by European export controls.

The change will not impact Canada’s planned deliveries in any way which means the country is still on track to receive 2 million doses each week in the month of May and 2.4 million a week in June.

The U.S. has started easing earlier restrictions on vaccine exports, which could signal a positive sign for the 20 million doses of AstraZeneca shots that Canada has paid for but hasn’t been able to access aside from a loan of 1.5 million shots in March.

The Ontario government has sent a letter to the Trudeau government demanding the feds impose mandatory three-day hotel quarantines for travelers entering at land crossings from the U.S.

That rule is currently only in place for all air travel. The province says there are reports of international travelers booking return flights into nearby American airports and driving across the border to avoid Canada’s mandatory hotel quarantine for air travel.

Trudeau defended the current system, saying there are very strict measures, on top of what the U.S already has in place, around testing for people who fly into their country.

While he appears to dismiss the request he says the feds will work with Ontario to possibly suspend international students from arriving.

Trudeau says Ontario is the only province making the request.

He also acknowledged that Alberta’s case count on Thursday was the worst since the beginning of the pandemic and adds the federal government stands ready to help them if needed.

Canada has administered 13,313,681 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as of Friday.

"Pfizer will now start producing Canada’s doses from Michigan."

Michigan is very close to the United States. Canadians, you are welcome.

Although one can make the case for not allowing american made vaccines to be exported but I am on record for quite a while as saying that once adults in the U.S are vaccinated- or at least not being held up majorly by supply- that I support shipments to Canada before vaccinating children in the U.S. So I have no bitching rights related to shipments to Canada.

The article does not - arguably- frame the issue properly and makes it sound like the shipments to Canada are just a result of Trump and his policies leaving. Not really. It is result of the supply situation improving which predictably opens more opportunities. Trump followed a policy with ventilators and other supplies too where he was willing to start exporting bigtime as soon as the American demand permitted.

Trudeau says he is willing to help Alberta too if needed. Heh, plan on it, unless you want to hear from my girl Michelle. He helps them by sending them vaccine made in America. Okay, whatever. Just git er done. It's the old "Ontario first" attitude that permeates Canada. And Alberta is treated as the arsehole of Canada.

I recently posted the article about Alaska sharing vaccine with Stewart British Columbia.

Now I see that Port Roberts, Washington is sharing with BC. Good on all of em.

For the Americans here who are curious, you might want to look at google maps or something to see where Port Roberts is located. It's pretty bizarre. From what I read in the past it is a real "don't ask-don't tell" kind of place with a high proportion of people who are either in the witness protection program or keeping extremely low profiles. It is a highly secure town because it is surrounded by the Canadian border om all sides except the sea. Look at a map. You will see what I am talking about.

As I said in the post about the situation in Alaska though, Ottawa needs to stop being a bureacratic pisspot and treating the whole country as though it is Ontario. The Americans are willing to give them the vaccine but the canadians have to go into quarantine if they cross the border to get it and they won't let the Americans in and vaccines can't be shipped unless approved at the top in both Canada and DC.

Cut the bullshit for Christsake. This is an emergency and people are trying to help each other out. It should not take more than five minutes to figure it out.

Hold a party in Canada that breaks COVID gathering limits.. and an attendee dies from COVID... well it's manslaughter charges for you.

Death due to COVID-19 parties could lead to manslaughter charges, experts warn

Mohammed has quite a little apartment there. And he was also charged with buying grain alcohol, in other words, bootleg stuff that has been jungle juiced up with ethanol or some similar reconfiguration.

I see a future for him working on the embassy staff for some muslim country at the UN. That's how all those guys spend their afternoons and evenings in NY. They bitch about the Great Satan by day, but party pretty hard. Plenty of American hookers and booze. Such is the life of a muslim diplomat or staff in NY. Vancouver guy would be a natural for that life.

"Exotic dancers were spinning on a stripper pole that ran from the second floor down to the first in the three-level suite. There was a DJ booth and bartenders making and serving drinks available for purchase."

No Canadians care what a dumb ass like you is on record of saying. You act like you personally had something to do with creating vaccines. You act like the US was solely responsible for the research made to discover these vaccines ( they weren't ) and that all countries should not export their medical discoveries globally.

Maybe get Michelle to deal with the outbreak situations in Alberta it's probably been the worst province in terms of dealing with Covid in Canada. Alberta has too many "conservative" politicians and residents that resisted taking measures to control Covid every chance they got.

I see you finally looked at a map. Maybe you'll stop posting that there will be ice in Toronto in June then. A good chunk of the US is north of Toronto. We also have somewhat moderated weather because we are on a giant Lake.

The vaccine situation in Canada has changed rapidly, far more rapidly then most posters on here are aware of. Last I heard case counts in Ontario are already cresting and might start dropping in a week. This was done by attacking the new hot spots in Ontario and throwing a lot of resources at getting a huge number of first shots done everywhere. This is of course how one controls an outbreak a few weeks late again on restrictions but everything's headed in the right direction.

Being in the 50-59 group, I was told wait until September in March then I got fast tracked to April 6th. Second shots are delayed but there is a lot of good news about even just having one.

I'd note that during the second wave when Jem was on here daily talking about Canada "exploding" in Covid we had already gotten it under control and San Diego was about to "explode" in Covid. Such is how narratives work on Elite Trader.
