Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

According to you moronic ideas... if they did not have all those irresponsible people... then they would not have to lockdown a third time and destroy immunities again.

Maybe instead they should realize they have to protect the high risk better and let the healthy low risk group gain some immunity...

Instead they keep destroying immunities with their lockdowns.

It has not worked twice... so lets do it again.

So dumb. They just go out of lockdown... virus surges then they lockdown again...

Fricken insanity.

Try anything but this crap which is clearly failing.

In early September 2020, the province showed a significant increase in new cases, along with similar spikes in provinces across the country.[9] Throughout the month of October, Ontario began to reintroduce some restrictions, with a focus on controlling spikes in the hotspots of Toronto, Peel Region, York Region and Ottawa. The province later rolled back its lifting of restrictions in hotspot regions with temporary measures, referred to as a modified Stage 2. In early November, the province unveiled a new five-tiered colour-coded response framework. The framework was created initially in contradiction to the metrics suggested to political officials by Public Health Ontario[10] and later amended by the province to lower thresholds in each category.[11] From late November to mid-December, the province began placing regions in rolling lockdowns, culminating in a province-wide shutdown beginning Boxing Day.[12] Due to the post-winter holiday surge of new infections, Premier Ford declared Ontario's second state of emergency on January 12, 2021,[13] which was lifted February 10,[14] and a stay-at-home order effective January 14,[13] which was phased out regionally between February 10 and March 8.[14] Regions then returned to individual categories in the response framework.

I've been posting videos last year of the maskless partying even maskless dancing in the shopping malls. Very sad to see.

Never saw fitness centers closed for business during the Pandemic. Yet, I would see a few people using the exercise equipment. Simply, you gotta work out at home (biking, rowing, free weights, jump rope) is all you need. Funny thing, the people of Québec have been asking for stricter restrictions but Premier François Legault resisted...even giving him warnings about what was happening the Easter Holiday...

Lots of private parties by the Elite. The gym below, I drove by it about a month ago...it was at full capacity...parking lot full of autos. The last time businesses violated the health guidelines...children became infected (a few hospitalized) via their parents / grand parents going to full capacity bars as posted last year...

People had a town hall meeting to prevent burning down the business (the bars) of the offenders because several primary schools had to be closed for a week to sanitize...the Covidiots.

'Bravo champion': As Quebec City returns to lockdown, mayor calls out gym at centre of massive outbreak

Officials in Quebec City were pleading for government to impose stricter measures.

As Quebec City once again finds itself under lockdown amid an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, many are pointing fingers at a 24-hour gym that has been linked to a huge outbreak.

The region reported 184 new cases on Wednesday, up 50 per cent from Tuesday and its highest total since early January, during the peak of the second wave.

Premier François Legault responded to the rise in cases by ordering schools and non-essential businesses in Quebec City and neighbouring Lévis to close for the next ten days. The curfew will also be brought forward to 8 p.m.

Legault described the new measures as a "wake-up call" for the area.

Officials in the region had been calling for stricter measures ahead of the surprise announcement by the provincial government.

Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume indicated earlier in the day he felt the ball had been dropped. "I believe Quebec City has become very dangerous," he said.

The Quebec government eased restrictions in the Quebec City area earlier this month. Gyms were among the facilities allowed to reopen.

But over the weekend, health authorities closed Mega Gym 24H, saying an outbreak there had led to nearly 70 new cases of COVID-19.

The cost of big biceps

The gym is owned by Dan Marino, a vocal opponent of public health measures. On Wednesday, Labeaume blasted the gym's management for taking a lax approach to safety after reopening.

"Bravo champion," he said in French, which roughly translates as "way to go champ."

"Everyone has nice biceps but now people are sick."

The gym reopened Monday, only to be ordered shut down again Tuesday, "until further notice."

A follow-up inspection had found several public health breaches, including not checking customers and workers for symptoms at the door, people working out within two metres of each other and inadequate protective measures for the staff.

And yet the gym was still open at 1 p.m. Wednesday, more than three hours after public health called, again, for an immediate shutdown. It wasn't until Quebec City police arrived that the shutdown order was enforced.

Leaving the gym Wednesday, one customer, Mario Bernard, said he was a little worried by the outbreak. The Latest
But he told Radio-Canada that he felt fine and didn't want to get tested, because he doesn't want to isolate for 14 days if his test comes back positive.

So far, there are 68 cases connected to the gym, and public health officials say outbreaks at eight workplaces in the region have been linked to it.

Another local gym owner told Radio-Canada the outbreak at Mega Gym 24H makes the entire industry look bad.

Gabriel Hardy, who owns the gym Le Chalet, said most places have been strictly following the health and safety guidelines for a year, and have shown they're willing to go above and beyond public health's standards.

Quebec AM9:42COVID-19 - Public health says next few days will be critical for five Quebec regions

Public health in the Quebec City area is asking people to limit their contacts and stay home as much as possible, especially during the Easter weekend. Guest host Alison Brunette checks in with Dr. André Dontigny, the director of public health for the Capitale-Nationale region. 9:42

Time for a blanket approach?

Earlier on Wednesday, Quebec City Director of Public Health Dr. André Dontigny told Quebec AM that supplementary public health restrictions were needed.

Dontigny said that even though hospital capacity is under control now, the health-care system may not be able to cope with a sudden rise in patients.

"One thing that is sure at this moment, is that the epidemic is, in a certain way, out of control in the Capitale Nationale," he said.

"We need to amplify our measures, we need all the support of the collectivity because of this situation."

Dontigny had called for restrictions that went beyond those usually associated with the red-zone designation.
Other experts suggested it might be time for wall-to-wall heightened restrictions across the province.

"Going back to one single rule, or a set of rules that are really, really easy to understand and apply by everyone, that is an option," said Dr. François Marquis, the head of intensive care at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal.

The disadvantage, he noted, is that blanket rules would have to be more strict. But with the potential for large gatherings over Easter weekend, there is cause for concern.

The outbreak at Mega Gym 24H, he said, shows how quickly things can get out of hand.

Well Canada loosened up restrictions and sent kids back to school... and this is the result.

Keep in mind that Canada still has done far better than the U.S. over time in dealing with Covid... ignoring of course Canada’s lack of vaccine issue.

I think here in Canada they try to play different health guidelines by the region instead of by the province.

For example, different areas (regions) of Ontario and Québec had loosened up restrictions or had very little restrictions while other areas within Ontario and Québec had restrictions or lockdowns.

Another example...some schools online learning but other schools a few miles away...in person learning. My kids private school was back to online learning last week...got the word on Friday its been extended another week (next week).
  • Kids feel happier because its safer for them...less stressful.
Yeah, the slow roll out of the vaccine is problematic but the past few days...they've been vaccinated like crazy (setting inoculation records in a few places). That's what's needed especially considering most of the infections now are the variants of Covid that attack younger adults.

According to your moronic ideas... if they did not have all those irresponsible people... then they would not have to lockdown multiple times and destroy immunities again. a laughable misunderstanding of how viruses work if it were not so serious.

Ontario keeps destroying whatever immunities they could be building up on their low risk population with their lockdowns.

It has not worked twice three times ... so lets do it again.

So dumb. They just got out of lockdown in March... Of course the virus surges what a target rich environment for the virus they create.... over and over.

Fricken insanity.

Try anything but this crap which is clearly failing.

How about letting the healthy and low risk acquire some immunity if they are willing to do go out an live with smart ideas like distancing...
and protect the high risk much better.

Your ideas are actually insane and down right dangerous to your community. So many theories you have been outright refuted on every level yet you still trot them out. The #1 change in Ontario Covid cases is young adults getting the UK variant. The "low risk" group you've been harping on about for a year is filling up our hospitals.

So much of what you have posted here is superstitious crap with no medical basis at all. The insanity here is you, buddy. You've been acting like a lunatic on here for a year running concerning Covid. I'm quite sure your family is loath to even mention Covid in your presence.

None of the lockdowns and restrictions in Ontario have failed in any way. The vaccine roll out issue was a constraint that had to be dealt with. This issue as you stated is his biggest downfall that I notice from last year...

He now knows 2020 low risk group is now 2021 high risk group due to the U.K. variant. I'm willing to bet he will not preach to lockdown the younger adults. :D

Tell us how your lock up the at-risk and let the “low risk” develop immunity nonsense is working out in no-lockdown paradise Brazil.

The recent outbreak in Ontario has been directly linked to younger to middle aged adults catching the UK variant while out and about. And many are more critically ill in age groups the deniers on here would suggest won't ever happen. Our schools have actually been mostly open throughout but the UK variant changed things now.

Vaccines are a little late to catch up but once reality hit the fast forward is very real now. The one ace in the hole we've always had over the US is there are far less numbers of deniers doing their best to mess things up. To be quite blunt, the rapid vaccine roll out in the US is saving many Americans from themselves. That assumes the vaccines will handle the variants; it is possible that the variants will create new problems first.

Poster "Jem" and those like him have been a danger to their community and helped exasperate the US Covid issues. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior. When I see someone like "TreeFrogTrader" going out of his way to promote vaccine nationalism, I just want to give him a sharp blow to the head. It's disgusting immoral behavior, and counterproductive even to Americans. I'm quite sure if he was diabetic he wouldn't refuse insulin because it was invented in Canada.

Nine ender you were the troll moron telling me that I was being selfish for going to the beach... (now we have newpapers like the USA Today advising people to go out to the beach and get Vitamin D
and even moron fauci has cited the importance of Vitamin D.)

Yet you wished Covid upon me.

Again... I must remind you that you were wrong to argue with me on all these issues.. .

a. There is no statistically useful proof of outdoor spread... especially doing normal outdoor activities...
b. There is no statistically useful evidence of asymptomatic spread.
c. We have studies showing that mask wearers are not protected relative to non masks wearers.
d. Last time I checked we don't really have any solid studies showing masks protect people in real life. (except for n-95s. ). Distancing works... masks get dirty... masks get touched. Dirty masks are quite dangerous.

Doctors and the govt also know who this virus kills.

And as I told you the only major thing I was wrong about about was that Sweden was done dying... and I think I was wrong because people needed to re develop immunity to some variants.

That is an amazing statistic that seems to explain a lot of the Canadians crazies here at elitetrader.

There is far more poverty in the US then Canada, and we take care of people in need better then you do. We subsidized people when Covid hit faster and in a bigger way then the US did. Perhaps this is one reason why there was more whining, poor behavior, and people unwilling to cooperate in the US. Might help explain why Covid death rates in the US were almost triple thar of Canada and rate of infections even worse for almost a year running.

I could look it up again but last I checked the levels of foreclosures and bankruptcies were higher in the US then Canada by a factor of 9.

hey moron... how many deaths under 29 in the last 14 days... in Ontario...

you fear mongering idiot..

answer ... 0 you moron.

and 1 under 40 you moron.

Maybe a coincidence...I posted not too long ago the Canadian inventions...one of them was insulin.

Yet, I forgot to post a follow up about how many Americans cross the border in Canada every year to get insulin because they can not afford or their insurance doesn't cover them in the United States for insulin.

Most popular destination in Canada for Americans is WalMart...where they can get their supply of insulin from the pharmacy within WalMart.

I didn't know this was happening until I saw it with my own two eyes in WalMart. A long line of people at the pharmacy buying insulin...some of them wearing "Make America Great Again" hats. :D  :D
