Yep, i wouldn't order that dessert.
Got me homesick though, reminded me of Crystal Room in Paris, the restaurant in the Baccarat Museum. Quite nice and one can get away with a fraction of 1500$ per head.

Checking the menu I didn't remember it that cheap, went several times and it was never very busy, they might have knocked down their standards, Baccarat is probably trendier in NYC

Anyway I would advise tourists to visit, it's a few steps from Paris Golden Triangle on a gorgeous square (Place des Etats Unis) but not quite along the most visited streets, so easy to miss.
