Gerald Ford's "Whip Inflation Now" period was pretty bad. I remember seeing him on TV with this silly button on his jacket:
Nah, Mr. Peanut takes the cake for getting rates past 16%... Ronny Raygun lowered them in his second term.
If we hit 18% on CD's, I'm selling my rentals for cheap and locking in a few 10 yr CD's! And I'll be thanking Hussein!

Thank God I sold my rentals a decade ago... got sooooooooo tired of writing checks for other people breaking things.
They won't. The Fed's decisions cannot be overruled by law or executive order. They have the money and power, not to mention the inflation presses you referred to. 2013 will be a hundred years of fiat money... and counting.
