Crazy!!! Markets down about 1% and the VIX is barely moving. Don't we need a spike higher in the VIX before we get a solid bottom?

depends on the time horizon.

for somebody who has to retire next year... this drop is painful.

for somebody whose horizon is 20 years, this drop is good, because I am getting more shares at cheap.

During a bear market, the smart money sells into strength. How do you know the bottom is in? The main trend is down. That is like someone during the bull market declaring the top is at hand.

how do you know this is not a bull market disguised in a bear's outfit?

how do you know who the smart money is?

how do you know what the main trend is? pull up s&p chart for the past 50 years..... that is the only "main trend" as far as I can see.

I suggest you pull up a chart from the last one hundred years. In 1907 there was a banking crisis...then 100 years later another banking crisis. Fairly obvious what happened after the first crisis.
