Can we be naturally humble traders?

Money changes people. That's why even though I'm successful I do my best to keep a humble attitude even though there is a lot of stupidity I have to deal with, which is not easy. Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that not everyone is smart, and if someone treats you poorly, you just have to realize that their life probably sucks so bad that they have to treat others poorly to make themselves feel better about themselves. And it's very, very sad to see this happen. I don't ever get angry with anyone because I know that they are probably going through some things in their own lives to make them act the way they do. I just smile and say "Have a nice day" and just leave it at that. There is no need for yelling or screaming or even violence.

One of my theories about being a great trader is you have to learn ACCEPTANCE. Acceptance of pretty much everything. Amd like most of trading, it's easy to talk about, but a lot harder to do.

Curt shows us acceptance and therefore a winning attitude.

Internet doesn't help,either full of people talking BS. Doesn't have to be trading, look at any forum or discipline, e.g. bodybuilding, loads claiming they are ripped, lift 3 plates a side never upload a photo, many that do upload photos, are on roids but deny it. Other forums 'experts' just google something and change the text and pass it off as their own. I am on language forums and people claim (in English) they learnt fluent Chinese / Japanese in 6 months, its total bull. The average person thinks they have an IQ greater than 100 yet fail to understand where the value 100 comes from . Point is that you don't get caught out online so start developing a inflated sense of ego

I think getting older and you don't bother with the bragging and coming back to your original question, yes you need the passage of time, ups and especially the hards knocks for reality to set in.

I am approaching 50 and done a lot in my life but to be honest I am not gifted, just took decades of work, chipping away every day, getting frustrated, wanting to quit, self doubt etc.
No matter what you do, its just takes years of dedication before one day it finally 'clicks' and you can immediately see who is full of hot air or not.

Lots of truth in there. One of the reasons why we should listen to older and more experienced people.

I'm not sure about the "naturally" part, but anytime I feel like acting a little arrogant, I look at the biggest butt-hole I know about and think "Do I want to be like that?"

Yes we can but it takes a lot of discipline not to give in to the tendency to trade big, to stick with a trading plan, especially after a few winning trades.

Yes that is very true but the title of this thread is can we be *naturally* humble traders i.e. traders who can be humble right from the beginning without going through the pain of suffering huge losses.

People who are released after 20 years in prison are very humble!

Not necessarily unfortunately. Becoming humble after suffering debilitating losses only seems to happen more to the trading world.

yup, 25 years ago I drove my motorbike into a parked car at 60mph, I got off very very lucky but lesson learnt! I never took a chance after that and thank god no accidents in 25 years .

Well Charles never really directly killed anyone, he "inspired" others in his cult to do it. With how malleable gen Z are today, I have no doubt he would be capable of committing genocide without lifting a finger today if he was released.

And no, some people are irredeemable, but I bet he was still more humble than he was 20 years ago. If you ever watch prison documentaries, most of the inmates do deeply regret their actions and most are humble wishing for a second chance. Most are definitely humble. But hey, maybe they're just putting on a show and people come out of prison the same as they went in. Who knows.
