Can someone living in the US with no visa open an account with TD Ameritrade?

As a European no, I heard that Canadians can do it and some other countries like Singapur etc. TDA didn't want to comply with ESMA reporting/rules (wasn't worth the hassle), but once the Schwab Merger is done, Europeans can get the TOS platform via Schwab.

Hmm that would be interesting but Schwab doesn't take most Europeans either, except Germany, Switzerland and Belgium maybe

If they take Germans they should take any other Europeans that are in the EU. They are governt by the same EU capital market law/rules

Just2trade will allow a foreigner residing in a foreign country to open an account with a passport and W-8 BEN Form. You don’t need SS or Tin number. You will likely have to list assets...give bank account in the country of residence...etc At least that is my understanding.

Not sure what everyone is suggesting. The OP said the account needed to be a US one and it’s not possible for an illegal person residing in the US who does not possess an ssn.

I don't understand it either. But the fact is, that Schwab accepts clients from Germany, the UK, Spain and Switzerland and no other countries in Europe. I am struggling to understand why.

Which EU countries are not in? Jus checked fr/ger/pl/sp/port and they are included
France, Portugal and Poland (assuming that are the countries you refer to) yield the same result:
Your request to open an account cannot be processed

Schwab currently cannot open accounts for residents of your country/region. Please check back with us in the future.

Thank you for your interest in investing with Charles Schwab.
