...many on the left would like to see Obama just bail on both Iraq and Afghanistan...lord knows we need the money being spent over there to help out own...but because of the fuck-up of Bush...Obama had to do something, and he chose to be involved with the cleanup.
I don't agree with his position at all. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, all products of our foreign policy and need for the oil in that area.
Rather than focusing on a solution to the underlying problem, i.e. making energy independence the U.S. primary goal, thus eliminating the problems of that part of the world, Obama has made a strategic blunder by trying to fix a leak without changing out the bad plumbing...
We get off the foreign oil, the problems vanish...
It is known as introducing the element of what is missing. All the problems over there that actually relate to us are directly related to 2 things.
1. Israel.
2. Oil dependency.
So get off the crack, let Israel take care of themselves (they believe they can) and let's get our own house back in order and stop the insanity of sending money to countries that use the money to sponsor terrorism, etc.

You are such a PIKER !!! The U.S., since 1950, have killed over 6,000,000 people on this planet: far, far more people than all Muslims and all other terrorist combined. The American Christian fundementalist is just as dangerous to our species as any Muslim fundementalist. Even more so at this point because they have the U.S. military (accounting for 53%+ of the world's TOTAL military spending), at their command.
Furthermore, we don't need the military to protect access to oil supplies. One group has oil (them) and another group needs oil (us): if you REALLY believe in capitalism then you would KNOW that the necessary transactions WILL take place.
BTW, Obama just this week announced a program of 8 billion dollars in loan guarantees to build nuclear power plants. Nuclear energy is the most readily viable solution to energy needs and carbon output problems. This is what happens when we have a leader who places SCIENCE above religious superstition.
