Why should I comment or be concerned about some narrative that some ET poster is pushing? That is like me answering you by quoting what someone else said or thinks and not you.

Were it just the poster in question, you'd have a point. But this is the message being shown to us everywhere. Its just an example of a problem that is endemic on both sides of the spectrum.

Can't get stuff fixed if the information we begin with is built on lies.

Minneapolis claims it has the votes to dismantle its police department. This is going to be epic.

I see that all the city councilors in Minnecrockolis are saying they will vote to disband the police department.

Not to get into the legal weeds here, but municipalities are creatures of the states. They have no separate constitutional powers that are not derived from the states via state legislatures and/or the state constitutions. When cities are chartered/created/incorporated it is upon a showing that they are able to provide basic services and assume certain basic responsibilities.

How the frig a city can meet its responsibilities to the state under the charter it is granted while simultaneously abandoning a core responsibility to provide for security and safety is going to require some splaining. Saying "we are going to fund more community development projects and have rapid response social workers when there are crimes" is not going to cut it, or at least they are answerable to the state legislature on that. This may sound like an obtuse issue that I am just pulling out of my arse but not really. It is the same one that Cuomo bumped up against with DeCrokio. NYC is chartered and incorporated as a city upon a representation that it will take responsibility for the safety and welfare of its residents in core areas.

No way should Minneapolis be allowed to disband its police department without state review and approval.

I think calls to reform policing in some cities is the natural outgrowth of our militarizing the police with arms, equipment and tactics more suited to a battlefield. It will be interesting to watch and I think some will get it right.

I still say, without reaearching due to laziness, that a council does not have the power to eliminate a public service that all citizens are entitled to.

I think this will be more peacock posturing in the heat of the moment so we will see. But imagine if someone can come in and decide with the council that the fireman and garbage men should be eliminated and we spend all that money elsewhere? Even though the public rhetoric makes it seem like the public wants it, the average citizen does not want it and would have that counil hauled off for trying.

Municipalities have no powers that are not derived from the states and states only charter/incorporate them upon a representation that they will fulfill core responsibilities for which the state has ultimate responsibility, as part of its being allowed into the union.

Next thing on the agenda will be to come up with commie forums that will have jurisdiction over some of the police crimes and misconduct. "Reform" cannot be limited to just the police.

Appeals may be possible from the local Justice Committee to the Central Planning Committee so it's all good.
