Does someone do it nowadays? Are companies willing by call to answer some typical questions, i.e. "I have seen you have increased investment into plants in the past 3 years, could you please let me know details of those investment and how you think it will affect revenue in the future"?

Some of those companies have their own discussion forum. You should call any company that you're interested in learning more about them to see if they have their own discussion forum for investors to ask questions as your questions.
The Pandemic has put many companies more online especially related to investor services, human resources, customer service, meetings et cetera in comparison to the past. As stated, they've even created their own discussion forum.
