Call It As I see It... Palin Won!

Not interested in nulification. Just don't want the level of degree to be the ultimate qualification either. :)

I would never make that suggestion. Undue attachment to academia may properly be considered a negative in quite a number of "real-life" endeavors. Having said that, IMHO, McCain's exceedingly low rank was* indicative of some type of deficiency - if not in aptitude, then in attitude.

Obviously, McCain's ranking qualifies as ancient history at this point. Irrelevant to be sure.

Quote from Gringinho:

People who invest heavily in their brains through indoctrinated education do not exactly sway easily in their beliefs - however wrong they might be proven to be.
:p

Couldn't have said it better.

Quote from smilingsynic:

Leaders should be exceptional individuals, as measured by intelligence, integrity, humility, "emotional intelligence", and courage.

A rare combination of traits in those who aspire to 'lead the country'. If we omit the last parameter, Jimmy Carter would rank very highly the leadership scale. Unfortunately...

If you don't mind, I'd like to add 'perseverance' to your list of desirable leadership traits.

Ah, I didn't know State/Lake was closed. Now Canyon you're not relating from personal experience about OTB venues, are you? :D :D

Yes I am. During my stint as a handicapper for an Internet Radio show I'd pop through to watch, research and wager. I even recorded several shows there. They paid me quite well also. We'd be up on the third floor on the club level.

When I pop through Chicago I still go to the Jackson site. I also stop over at the Mud Bug off Halstead and North Avenue. :)

I used to be a regular at Jackson OTB for about 10 yrs. Back in the days when floor trading ruled that place was a blast. The 3rd floor bar was all traders getting smashed and betting crazy amounts on the horses. I rarely went to State/Lake though...the place was a mental asylum. Apparently since Daley wanted that space at State /Lake so bad OTB could not renew the lease. Now all those mental patients go to Jackson OTB.

Apparently they opened a new one in the Gold Coast which is very nice though.

I watched portions of the 2006 Alaskan Governor's debate. In that debate Palin did not adopt an affected, folksy "doggone, you betcha" facade. However, for an arguably more important Vice Presidential debate, she tried to come across as Elly May Clampett. It seems to me that she (or her handlers) chose to dumb herself down to appeal to the national Republican base. Watch portions of the gubernatorial debate and compare it with her performance against Biden. What other explanation can there be? She is talking down to the very people she wants voting for her!
