California bans sales of gas powered vehicles by 2035

Actually it wouldn't if you had a lot of distributed generation. Fortunately CA has more of that than anywhere else in the country and plans to get to a lot more. You do make a good point that CA and the rest of the U.S. should be pushing much harder than they already are to have solar plus storage on every building. Greatly increase the robustness of our power supply and reduce the power of the monopoly electric companies, seems the obvious course of action.
The monopolys are because of gov..
How is gov gonna solve the problem that they are themselves

The left has lost control of California. The state will become more blue as conservative residents move out. In time the remaining residents won't be able to support the California system. Same is true in the Northeast.

Bad for oil price in the long-term

Not really. California already taxes the shit out of gas. Most of California already drives lower consumption vehicles. This was expected. I'm pretty sure they won't ban airplanes that run on gas in 2035 unless they figure out how to fly airplanes on electricity. They are just trying to make their people vote blue. I love many parts of California. I mourn the loss of many parts of California. It is not the same. It is getting worse.

Pretty sure that if there is an airplane manufacturer in Cali (I don't think there is), they will be moving their manu facilities out of Cali before that law comes to pass. :-)

California became the first state in the nation to make solar mandatory for new houses. Beginning in 2020, newly constructed homes must have solar panels, which could be costly for homeowners. The state estimates that the cost will be offset by savings on utility bills.Feb 17, 2019

Unless you forgot to plug your nearly empty battery into the charger at night, and you get woken up by sirens at 2AM that say you have 10 minutes to evacuate from an approaching wildfire.
Or imagine you're gas tank is empty... SOL!

I purchased my first home in California back in 1995. Man I loved it there back then. California real estate is dead to me now. So many problems it is sad. The left has ruined the state. It will take huge reforms to turn things around for California. The flight is real.
Republicans have already left the state in troves. Even right wing Orange county is now blue! Still too many Trump loving hillbilly anarchists living in the deserts and forests though.

No skin in the game but hate when government mandates stuff like that. As an electrician I’ve never dabbled with solar myself, but the maintenance of this stuff sounds horrible. Lots of electronic components = pain in the ass.

Pretty sure I read an article or mention somewhere of California requiring landlords to have to install electric vehicle charge stations if a tenant gets an electric vehicle. This sounds horrible. Depending on age of building, size of service entrance, and distance of entrance to parking, this can be a substantial cost to install.
