Go to your link on SO. Take the top 20 results. Categorize into Web/Non-Web related tags. Sum up. You see that non-web-related tags sum up to almost 1.6 times the tags relating to web-related content.

=> Users at SO (unarguably the world's top online resource for programmers, professional or not) post a lot more non-web related content than web-related.

=> And so you understand why in general there has been so much web related content popping up (on any such site), there is a huge drive world wide and in most industries (including finance) to move applications onto the cloud/run them on servers. Even R has a server instance that can be accessed through web interface. But again you hijacked the whole discussion with your stupid comment that most content on SO is web-related (which I showed it is not).

=> C ranks 17th (!!!) among the top tags, C++ 9th (!!!), objective C 16th (!!!). This speaks for itself.

=> Windows is based on C++ not C, do a simple web search!!

You clearly demonstrate that you a) either are following an agenda of a troll who delights in pissing off people, or b) you are plain stupid and cannot even add up simple numbers. You still have not added much value on this thread other than attacking my posts that I backed up with facts.

I cannot understand how this thread ended up on SO language popularity. I never checked but I would assume C# is more popular on SO... just a feeling.... it is used more by novices and non professional programmers that would reach out for online help.

Both C++ and C# have their place on the market. I would never write a low latency trading system in C#, and I would never write the user interface to the trading system in C++.

Since this thread is hot, lets add another dimension.... Linux or Windows...... just joking :-)

Nicely put. Interesting thread!

Funny that instead of providing benchmarks to prove their choice of C#/C++, posters all got pretty charged up and started using popularity of language on SO and other forums to prove their point.

To the OP.

There have been many such projects started up. Never got involved in any but had been following several. One of the most basic things they were lacking is scope. Lack of a well defined scope results in lack of proper analysis of what is to be developed. Lack of proper analysis brings up lack of proper design, which results on mangled, unmanaged code.

My suggestion is that you write up a couple of lines. What do you envision? What is your scope and goal? If you do have a proposal for a project that looks serious and well defined you will find people interested in participating.

Based on your posts the last couple of days, regardless of the relative performance or ranking of C or C++ or C#, if I ever HAD to use a piece of software written by you, I would most definitely want it to be in C#.

I should have never wasted my time on this. To be honest I got it all wrong, I honestly was fooled into believing this guy knows his stuff. Well, turned out he knows a little but unfortunately only 1-2% of what he claimed to be an expert at. Took way too long to figure that out. I have made my point clear and also properly responded to the OP about my thoughts on C and where C shines.

I do not write software that is supposed to go into production, but I know C++ and C# well enough to hire the right programmers and delegate tasks to get the job done with the right tool. Programming is not my real edge, developing trading strategies and trading them is.
