Actually, I just realized that I do own a horse - I am supporting a horse rescue place in the Upstate New York and technically I own some of the animals there. So I am hypocritGreat point. But i was being a little snarky in my response---

My exwife put hers in cold storage and it wasn't cheap!
To quote my colleague from Bear Stearns - "it covers the coffee stains on my shirt". Besides a few charity events (*), I have not worn a tie for the last 10 years or so.
* I am convinced that the whole logic chain of the black tie charity events involves getting a wife to say "darling, I have not worn an evening gown for at least a year!"

White tie events are even worse--- lol! And to think i met my nasty ex wife at the vienesse opera ball in NYC that my friends and I crashed in 1990 With rented white tie tuxes.
5 of us got in by passing the single person entry ticket under an exit door to the next guy. Those were the days!

People wear suits to work, a wedding, a wake and a funeral; that's about it.Men's ties are another object I can see no sense in.
What purpose do they serve?
Maybe in winter it helps to retain heat by closing off the shirt is all I can think of.
In Perth many business people do not wear as it's too hot for a good part of the year.
But it's another fashion relic I would gladly like to see the end of, but doubt it.
Like suits and hats, here to stay, humans can be a pompous lot.
Royalty garb is another thing, sheesh - done up so much a peacock would feel ashamed.
Not too many years ago (my guestimate 15) I saw, on what else CNBC, a reporter catch up to at Buffett at the curb outside a building in DC where maybe he had given a speech or whatnot. He was waiting for driver to pick him up. They talked a good 10 minutes before the car pulled up. Paper sign in the window. Paper sign with his name like Joe Blow, really!!!!
So .... he used just some service, whose driver was not sitting there on the clock right at the curb, or if he was off on some side street waiting not too prompt with pulling up front and center.
The world's richest or second richest person you wouldn't expect to just be standing around.
As for marketing, marketing what Geico Insurance. Berk Hay results speak for themselves. What?
Buffet is a tight wad - I saw a documentary on him recently - he lives like someone making $35k - POS house and car. He stops at Mc Donalds every day on his way to work and splurges if the market is up allowing himself to spend up to $3.
Any clown can end up making and saving a lot of $. Miser millionaires living in complete poverty are found all the time when they die. I think what is truly remarkable are those that cash out before they get to old & live their dreams - like Jim Rogers did - he cashed out, bought a motorcycle and toured the world - his travels were so extreme he even got into the Guinness book of world records several times.
