Very true and insightful on your part.

My metric would be to look for a guy that looks comfortable and non-assuming no matter what he's wearing. It could be a suit and tie, or it could be jeans. BTW, I don't get the whole cult of watches - these things tell time worse then a cheap quartz Timex, what's the point?One thing that i have noticed is how to identify successful and not so hedge fund managers -- just look for the guys who look homeless. Other than in NYC, guys in suits are usually low level analysts wannabes and sales guys.
If you are thinking of the HIV comment, it was not him, it was @recession2016. Very poor taste if you ask meAnd I noticed in the comments @lawrence-lugar made a passing statement.

As a long time runner, I've been through a succession of Ironman watches, even during my Swiss watch period (well over now). The straps end up splitting through much usage and the cost of replacing and one assumes the battery will be next, it makes sense to just get on eBay and get a new one at a good discount.And here I sit with my ancient Timex Ironman -- my second, after the first one went 20 years or so.... (a bunch of batteries, 3 "sport-duty" wristbands, and the casing worn so much that you had to have *memorized* the buttons, as there were no identifiers left)..... The first one, I paid ~$50.... the second one, I paid maybe $15, and I don't think it was on sale. I just bought my third strap for it.
Such a cheapass.
In the safe sits an ancient Bulova with 24-hour movement and face. Cool shit. But I'm not kind to watches (I mean, who grinds the paint off of an Ironman???), so maybe once a year I take it out. {Thanks, Dad.}

I'm with ya ("Yer gonna run *how*far*?? I don't like to *drive* that farrrrrr!"), except that I discovered the *wonder* of the velcro sport band. WOW. Lighter-than-snot, and lasts and lasts. Couldn't find one this last time 'round, and the replacement looks more like 'original equipment' -- I'm expecting it to snap at any moment.....
I take my brioni blue blazer everywhere, i dress up or down with jeans. Cost almost 4k...
