About the economy the President is a lot like a manager of a MLB team. Gets too much credit when the win too much blame when they lose. Alot of the trouble facing US right now stems from housing bubbble deflating and the fact the Joe Average consumer has dug himself into a fairly deep hole from the overuse of credit. How this is any Presidents fault I don't understand. If a large segment of any population decides uncoerced to borrow large sums of money at high rates of interest to buy cosumable items at some point you will have a problem. And it is not the Realtor, Mortgage Broker, Credit Card Company, Senator, President, Restraurant Owner, or SeaDo salemans fault that people are in financial trouble. They are all easy scapegoats but ultimately people are individually responsible for their financial state in North America and need to stop blaming anybody and everybody for their inability to say no.

You miss the point here, as all liberals do. Is the doctor responsible for the disease or the cure? It would be more honest to focus your disappointment on who started these things not who fixed them.

Reagan had to clean up Carter's mess (12% inflation and a badly weakened defense), Bush Jr (in 2001-2002) had to deal with the serious slowdown that was created at the end of Clinton's era and the 9/11/2001 attack. The other two instances were relatively mild economic fluctuations that are natural phenomena in an economy as large as ours.

Along the same lines, you can still hear the liberals accusing the Republicans for the Vietnam war and related economic turmoil, forgetting (or deliberately ommitting) the fact that it was JFK who started it and Johnson who escalated it out of control. Oh well.
