From the White House:

The recent turmoil in the financial markets have been tumultuous. I feel your concerns and have been in touch with myself and my financial advisors. So in light of this crisis we have devised a plan to make this all go away. Since much of this turmoil is centered in dollar denominated debt obligations as of 12:00 noon today the dollar will no longer be the legal tender of this great land.
