Quote from Vienna:

I called what New York Magazince rated as "the best computer repair shop in NYC", described the components to them and asked what they would charge to put it together. They quoted me $ 250 total, said it would take about a day... so very reasonable I thought... I see no reason why I would not let the pros handle this.... time is valuable, and they test it before they give it to you. I might just duplicate your rig exactly- thanks for the information and research!

been using a q6600 (bit OC) myself now for MC & TS, does a superb job. was quite a challenge to build it quiet & cool, but now the monster is almost silent :)

Thanks... it was a fun project. The machine ran flawlessly since day one. For most situations, the CPU loading was less than 5%.

What steps did you take to make it quiet?

Update...

the CPU heatsink popped out of its place...
the thermo sensor inside the CPU shut down the machine automatically, preventing a nuclear melt down.

I reset the heatsink... making sure the screws are doubly tight.
I should have replaced the thermo paste, but I didn't have any on hand... and seeing the old paste is still "good"... and it was late at night... and I was in a hurry to get the machine up and running again, I took a gamble and just re-sit the fins.

So far so good...
