Building My Trading Rig (A Documentary)

Quote from Tums:

Got this spare power supply. It is a basiq [sic] 500W unit, but should do for now.
I only have one graphics card, one harddrive, and I am not OCing the rig yet.

Yet :D

Yes, I have to get the rig going first. Then I have to make sure it can run stably... then I can think about OC.

Can't wait though. ;-)

The memory I picked are a preparation for OC.

DDR2 PC2-6400/800MHz, CAS 4-4-4-12
2 x 2048 DIMM

I was tempted to go 8GB, but decided to hold off to 4GB. The memory price will probably go lower by the time I need the full bank.

Installing the power supply was easy: all it took was 4 screws on the outside.

8GB is not supported by Windows

I will be using Vista 64 bit on this machine.

I do not have a need for 8 GB right now. The only reason the thought of buying the memories now was because I want to have matching memories.

Can you explain a little bit about why vista 64bit? From what I've briefly read there's not a lot of applications that run on it?http://compreviews.about.com/od/buyers/bb/DesktopPCs.htm
That's a good little site for beginners like me but you must have done a lot of research yourself to want to install it.
You are correct that there are NOT a whole lot of applications for Vista, let alone for the 64 bit version.

Even on applications that "claim" to support Vista, most of them are going through teething pains.

If you ask me for recommendation, I would say XP for sure. The OS is stable, the drivers are plenty. There is just no reason to change.

I happen to run 2 programs that can take advantage of VISTA 64 bit, thus my decision to give this OS a try. I can always fall back to XP if this does not work out.

Install spacers for the Mobo...

My board is in the standard ATX format. The case supports multiple board sizes; I just have to look for the holes marked for ATX.
