Hi, all
Trader13 made a very good point about the locations of the datacenters used by a broker.
Would anyone be interested in chiming in to create a thread on this subject?
I'll start with IB:
US

Europe (CH)
http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/212.243.80.1
Asia (HK)

I understand that data providers CQG, Rithmic and TT all have servers in datacenters around the world. Not sure about retail brokers and FCMs.
Your participation would be most welcome and eagerly awaited!
If you're looking for a backup broker for IB, I assume the reason would be that IB is unavailable either due to servers being down in their datacenters or a network outage in their area. In this case, the most reliable backup broker would be one that is geographically distant from IB, relying on different data centers and network. I haven't done the research to figure out which brokers are in this category, but at least this is a rationale for selecting one.
