"Who needs friends or new customers when you have an AIRPLANE"

Funny, where I live in Alaska almost every one of my friends have owned an airplane at one time or another, kind of like having a car, nothing to talk about. Of course, if he has a used F15 he's flying around, I'd like a ride.

Haha..Successfully is clearly a tempermental douchebag with a huge ego and very low self-esteem.
Learn the term deflection and humility Alex!
I know plenty of people like you - all hat, no cattle.

That is great to hear. Everyone in Alaska has a new $600,000 airplane: Then we are all in great company. What kind do you own?

Give me the tail number so I can check it out in the FAA database.

Here in poor PA most people are pretty happy with a relatively new car worth about $45,000.

You should call the Fed and tell them how wealthy all Americans are? Tell them we do not have a defecit. We all are flying $600,000 aircraft.

can a broker recommend any stock he wants, or is there some type of structure within the firm that he can only recommend certain stocks or certain kinds of stocks?

in the video series "wallstreet warriors" http://www.hulu.com/wall-street-warriors there are two brokers that reccomend sandisk to a weathly client for 250k.

was sandisk a stock their frim wanted to dump, and by doing so, selling worthless stock to an un-knowing public, or was this something that the brokers had done research on, and honestly thought the stock was a good pick?

Looking forward to your managed account results.

Quote from drsteph:

From a practical standpoint, this bothers me greatly.

I have yet to sit down with a 'financial advisor' who can have an intelligent discussion about an option with 24 hours until expiration. What's my delta? Gamma? Theta? What can I do if I am long the option? Perhaps a set of unfair questions, but shouldn't an advisor be able to advise you? Shows them up for being the salesmen that they are. For 3% a year I expect something better than telling me to dollar cost average into their 'proprietary' (read: curve-fitted) MPT allocation mix and 'stay the course'.

And there's the problem - if something happens to me, who will advise my family financially? Perhaps better to just put the nut into a mixture of different maturity Treasuries and TIPS with a moderate exposure to SPY and VGTSX and hope for the best. I have no confidence that some of these folks wouldn't allocate my portfolio into Class A 5% load funds and change them annually for fresh commission.

What I would pay 1% of assets p.a. for is free execution (like UBS did) and someone I could call up on the phone and have the following conversation with:

"Hey there. Pull up my portfolio. I just put on size in GC strads in June and am a little concerned."

"Well, let me run this through my supercomputer. Ok. Model predicts likely rise in volatility in GC so suggest we delta hedge aggressively - here are my suggested pivots: ....... Now, by the way, I note that you have a profitable position in palladium that isn't going anywhere right now - in a sideways channel. However, model shows if your GC position profits, correlation coefficient to your overall portfolio doubles to 1.2 and you may give back some of those gains. Want to take some profits and scale back the position to reduce the net effect on your portfolio? My buddy over at goldy told me he had closed out that trade recently. Negligible effects on the rest of the portfolio, by the way."

"OK. Sounds like a good idea. Where is it? Sell half."

That's what I want in a financial advisor - advice, and someone who has access to tools, computing power, and breadth of market information THAT I DON'T HAVE. If you can't give me value added, then the only added value is to YOU!

Of course, the reality is that such an individual probably can't be found in the under $100 mio USD range, and I freely admit I don't qualify, so what I want and what I get are two different things. That's why I rely upon myself.

Good luck finding that, that's not what advisors/brokers do. They are salesman. I know plenty of brokers with extensive knowledge, much more so than 98% of the hacks out there, but even they won't be able to sit with you and answer those questions difinitively. What you want isn't something that you find often, unless you have a $10mm plus account somewhere, and even then you wouldn't be able to talk to the guy because he'd be too busy throughout the day. I mean no insult by this but if you have the time to speak in such exacting technical terms regarding options transactions, then you either should do everything yourself, or qualify the advisor before you invest with him and then just put it to bed.

Investors have brokers because they don't have the time to look at all the information and deal with the semantics, and because of the access to information brokers are supposed to have. The problem is that they're are a lot of hacks and criminals that are in it just for the flash and commissions. Sad but true.

Most money managers that charge a wrap fee don't even manage the money as previously stated, they just froward it to a broker who buys and sells for them and they all get paid.

I don't own a plane, I don't particularly like flying. But when you live in a roadless area they are pretty common. And whether the plane cost $600,000 new, or used for $50,00-$100,000, is irrelevant as long as it does the job for you. Unless of course your purpose in owning the plane is to try and impress people enough that they overlook your shortcomings as a human being.

You and your kind have made a plane an issue, not me. When people like you make opinionated comments about someone without knowing them, you show your ignorance, and should be treated like scum.

Another member here brought up the plane and thanked me for a ride.

So then I am supposed to take the little comments by losers with cartoons of paper airplanes etc.

Actually I am more proud that for 12 years, after an airplane that crashed 5 minutes after I got out of it, suffering from a severe fear of flying I conquered that. Now I can put an aircraft on a runway with a 200' ceiling at 100 mph.

I do not decry poor people; my family was poor. But this business I am in now is a predatory one. Trading wimps do not survive.

If that bothers you go stare at Russia from Sarah's back yard. Don't pick a fight with me.

But don't tell me that I abandon coaching my clients to improve their trading---to seek great wealth and success. And whether you like it or not, trading success is measured in money.
