I'm glad Fergie (the singer) was successful in kicking her Crystal Meth Addiction to the curb many years ago. Yet, a long time ago she sang the National Anthem at a sporting event while "stoned out of her mind"...she sounded better back then in comparison to singing today clean.
Yet, she's now a celebrity... it's cool to be bi-sexual like her.
My point, had it been Fergie caught passing through customs into/out of Russia...nobody at this forum would have thought a second about her past legal troubles, past drug addiction, past alcoholism, inter-racial relationships, bi-sexuality (pussy-eating, dick-sucking), and support of many anti-racism organizations...
As for this Britney woman...the only thing that matter to me is that she's from a military family, a proud military family and that she donates/helps U.S. veterans...probably more than any of ETs deplorable racist asswipes.

Brittney Griner is low-hanging fruit for Russia while Whelan (a veteran) is accused of spying...a much more serious issue and he's ex-military...a bigger target for political manipulation and foreign affair concern.
The idiots out there making the two equal just do not understand the difference between spying and getting caught in customs with drugs for their personal use.
Further, the same idiots do not understand that gaining the release of Brittney Griner can be used by Griner (she is from a military family) to bring more awareness to Whelan (former Marine) considering many Americans forgot about him until Griner was arrested.
Russia is holding Whelan for something much bigger that may develop at a later date (e.g. stop supporting Ukraine and we'll release Whelan).

Correct...all professional athletes are drug tested multiple times during the year...many times unannounced testing.
Much different in your off-season except for Olympic Athletes.
Professional athletes know they can legally occasionally smoke a joint as long it's not near the beginning of the season when drug testing is mandatory. It's also the same in the military...you go on a long leave (vacation)...you don't dare smoke a joint in your last 30 days before returning back to duty because you'll fail your drug test.
That's the case with Griner...she probably has some sort'uv anxiety issue and had smoked something within that allowed time slot so that when she returned back to the states...she still had 30 days for the drug to clear out of her system before her next drug test.
It's rumored about 10% of NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB do smoke a few joints in their off-season while being very careful not to do such too close to that 30 days before the start of their season when drug testing becomes mandatory.
This is a very important drug testing policy considering many sport teams are located in states that have legalized marijuana use/sales. Simply, sport teams have a very relaxed drug policy and Griner is just one of the hundreds of professional athletes that do legally smoke pot.
Griner mistake was "transporting" the drug through customs while traveling from one country to another country instead of waiting to legally buy it/use it upon return to the United States like any other pro athlete in the states.
In fact, those that forget they still had a joint in one of their clothing that accidentally was packed in their luggage...its an occasional smoker of marijuana especially confirmed with the amount in the travel luggage.
