British booze consumption in biggest fall for 60 years

You know the economy has slowed when the Brits cut back on booze.

Notorious abroad for their binge-drinking, Britons bucked the trend last year with alchohol consumption in the country showing its biggest fall since 1948, the industry said Friday.

The Government’s recommended guidelines are up to two to three units of alcohol a day for a woman, and up to three to four for a man.

One unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol - the amount of alcohol the average adult can process within an hour. This means that if the average adult drinks a drink with one unit of alcohol in it, within an hour there should in theory be no alcohol left in their bloodstream,but that length of time could differ depending on a person’s body size.

...just one pint of strong lager can equate to more than three units of alcohol – almost your daily recommended guideline if you are a man.
