British booze consumption in biggest fall for 60 years

Quote from MohdSalleh:

no this means the mkt is in a boom, in a depression people buy more booze

Everyone is putting his last penny in junior mining stocks.

Quote from pspr:

I thought booze sales went up durring recessions/depressions.
Those were the days before socialized medicine, when Brits self medicate.

"But 39 percent of British men and 31 percent of women still exceeded the recommended daily amount of booze"

I live in the US so please excuse my query but....what is the "recommended daily amount of booze" over there?

From http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/features/health/guide-to-alcohol-units-and-measures:
The Government’s recommended guidelines are up to two to three units of alcohol a day for a woman, and up to three to four for a man.

One unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol - the amount of alcohol the average adult can process within an hour. This means that if the average adult drinks a drink with one unit of alcohol in it, within an hour there should in theory be no alcohol left in their bloodstream, but that length of time could differ depending on a person’s body size.

...just one pint of strong lager can equate to more than three units of alcohol – almost your daily recommended guideline if you are a man.
