A major source of U.S. oil - 8% output - shutdown and shutoff like a simple light switch.

It is so obvious that they have been unable to do such vital and crucial maintenance for 14 years on the pipeline because they have been PC handcuffed by Muslims and Arabs, especially Sunni Arabs from Qatar. Wake up America!! Arabs and Muslims control EVERYTHING!!

Transit lines move the oil to flow stations for transport down the trans-Alaska pipeline for shipment 800 miles south to Valdez, where it's shipped to the Lower 48 aboard tankers.

BP officials said the line where the leak was found was last checked for weakness using a technology called a "smart pig" in which a device is sent down the tubes to assess pipeline integrity in 1992.

BP had not done a routine maintenance "pigging" on its transit lines because they didn't think it was necessary because those lines carry clean crude from which water was removed.

Wasn't there a very large leak in the BP pipeline in the same area a few months ago... in the terms of 100's of thousands of gallons? BP let the problem fester. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, but if the pound of cure but who cares... as long as the herd will pay for more at the pumps.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Ahmed Chalabi, once the Pentagon's choice as future Iraqi leader, and his nephew Salem Chalabi, the man organising the trial of Saddam Hussein, Iraq's top investigating judge confirmed last night.

Salem Chalabi is wanted as a suspect for the murder of a finance ministry official last June while his uncle, the former leader of the exiled Iraqi National Congress, is facing charges of counterfeiting banknotes.

The move is a fresh blow to a dynasty with close former links to the Bush administration. Ahmed Chalabi, who was a key figure in the consultations carried out by Washington in the approach to the invasion of Iraq, suffered a major reverse earlier this year when he was accused by US intelligence agencies of spying for Iran.

Of the new charges, the most serious is that against his nephew, who holds a prestigious position as executive director of the Iraqi special tribunal, responsible for the forthcoming trial of Saddam Hussein and some of his closest henchmen.

BP: Pipeline closing may last for months

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - BP said Monday it discovered corrosion so severe that it will have to replace 16 miles of pipeline at the huge Prudhoe Bay oil field — work that could shut down the nation's single biggest source of domestic crude for months and drive gasoline prices even higher. ADVERTISEMENT

Oil prices climbed more than $2 a barrel on the news, and gasoline futures rose, too. The West Coast is expected to be squeezed particularly hard, and the government is considering releasing oil from its emergency stockpile to ease the crunch.

BP PLC said it will have to replace most of the 22 miles of so-called transit pipeline at Prudhoe Bay, which produces about 2.6 percent of the nation's daily supply including imports, or about 400,000 barrels a day
